Beverly's Story
after I left school, I didn't do much of anything for awhile and turned down University of Wichita twice. Finally I got into the restaurant business where I learned all aspects of the business by working at a variety of places. I didn't really care for it though. New years eve, 1966, I was returning from California when btween Ardmore and Marietta,Oklahoma, I was hit by a drunk, rolling down a hill 3 times and totaled out my little Dodge Dart, and breaking my neck. I dislocated the 4th cervical, broke the fifth and smashed the 6th. After spending 6 weeks in the Ardmore hospital and 2 weeks in Oklahoma City Teaching Hospital, I returned hom. I healed extremely quick and had no after effects. I met and married my husband in Wichita, Kansas and went with him into the household goods moving business, He was a trucker in the business. er, 1968, he left the business and I stayed with it. I was a professional packer for 30years, working both in and out of Wichita. I had a significant other for 10 years. We separated in 1995 and he dies in 1997. I recently went from semi-retired to fully retired, live alone in my home with 6 cats, and ride an adult trike (eco-friendly,healthy and cheap.)I am a voracious reader, love my cats (no children), do crossword puzzles (the difficult ones), am a computer freak and wonders of wonders, I am still doing needle work (a left over from St John's.) I can't do the finer work because of my eyes, but do counted cross stitch and crocheting. Outside of having only 1 1/2 lungs (lung cancer), 3 hernias and female surgery (I still heal remarkedly fast) my health if good even though I have gained a lot of weight. I am still a loner and will probably never change.
