Beverly's Story
It's New Year's Eve, the last day of 2008, which seems like a good day to take a walk down memory lane and finally write my story. So... I graduated high school in January 1975 and moved to Marin, then later back to Los Altos. Had a lot of fun. saw a lot of music, worked some not -so-great jobs (bagging groceries at Safeway, and does anyone remember FotoMat's?) and eventually lucked into a job in 1979 at a biomedical start-up, Collagen Corp. Stayed there for three years working in the labs, then headed to Washington State for college in 1979, better late than never! I got married to a fellow student in 1982, and graduated from Western Washington University in 1983, 6 months pregnant at the time with my first child, Ben. We came back to California in 1984 after my brother BIll Hildebrand was seriously injured in a near-fatal automobile accident. We lived with him for a few years as he rehabilitated...Expand for more
, and I had my daughter Kathryn in 1986. I worked at Stanford in the med school for awhile, then got a job at a biotech start-up called Matrix Pharmaceuticals. I stayed there for 11 years. Towards the end of that time my first husband and I split, and I moved to the East Coast. I now live in a suburb of Boston, and last June celebrated my 10th wedding anniversary with my second (and final!) husband, who works in the finance industry. I have had an interesting career in the biotech industry, the last 16 years in investor relations and corporate communications. My husband and I each have two great children, ranging in age from 22 to 31. I miss California but get back a few times a year for work or pleasure. As I sit here watching the snow fall our time at Los Altos High seems very far away, but I wish all of my old friends and classmates a prosperous and peaceful new year.
Cheers,
Beverly Holley
