Bill's Story
Just when things were getting good at Washington High(football, Track, music, drama and social stuff), I transferred to Reynolds at the start of our Junior year. I sure did miss my old Colonial friends.
Surprise, though, Reynolds High was a great highlight in my school career--3 grade schools and 2 (almost 3) high schools. . .bummer.
The positive side of having nomadic parents is that I'm lucky to have made lots of lasting and cherished friendships that continue today. I am truly honored by all of you.
After graduation, I went into the Coast Guard, then into Portlnd State where I graduated in 1966. Among other things, I spent 30+ years in the Law Enforcement and Intelligence Communities, which was the basis for my book on Corporate Espionage--"The Amacon Cover." (google Bill Klausman for my site). I even ran for Multnomah County Commissioner in the eighties. Good thing I didn't win!!
My folk singing group "River City Ramblers" began in 1960 (google River City Rambers for the site), then after a short jaunt with "The New Christy Minstrels" in 1975, I returned back to the Ramblers and we're still performing today. (yeah yeah, I know, who wants to see an old fart playing and singing folk and blue grass?)
I truly cherish all the friendships I made throughout my years including those at Oregon Ship, Sitton, Vernon, Jefferson, Washington,...Expand for more
Reynolds and Portland State.
I always wanted to be a cop when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a stupid idea. As it turns out, they were wrong.
Was in Kappa Phi at Portland State. We were about to go ATO National but PSU wouldn't go for it. Stupid, eh?
My current age is 71. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be one leg in the grave. I was so completely ah. . .wrong I think..
All my clothes are at least that old.
Lots of Car trophies for Rallye, Concours and a special Martin Guitar made for all New Christy Minstrels.
In 10 years, I hope to be Alive and kicking. I'm going to get there by hook or by crook..
Ron Parno and I met in 4th Grade at Vernon School. We were the hottest Accordion Duet on our block. We finally wised up--Ron taking up the String Bass and I the guitar. While mistakes sounded crappy on the accordions, they became rock and roll on the guitar and bass. We kept our music going for all these years. Sadly, he passed on in June 2011. I'll always cherish our wonderful and zany times together as we grew up. . .well. . .maybe grew older.
My first job was at Columbia Bowl, where I got paid 10 cents a line to set pins. What I remember most about it is what the hell was I thinking?.
Being 6'2" in the 7th grade and having the parents of the opposing little league team accuse me of being an adult.
