Bill's Story

Life Guess my other bio flew the coup. This will be a short one. After graduating I worked different jobs until 65, when I became a sheetmetal worker. 66-69 USMC. 69-02 sheetmetal worker. Retired 8-1-02. 2 marriages, 2 divorces, 3 children, 5 grandchildren. Material things throughout my life are 5 houses, 1 condo, 3 boats, 29 cars including 2 race cars 1 show car and the 65 vett I just won, 10 trucks and 3 SUVs. Coached 15 years of football and baseball from T-ball thru high school. Which are also some of my happiest years. After Vallejo, I lived in Vacaville 30 years until moving to Gardnerville Nevada in Oct of 02. Moved here to Fernley in July of 03. I want to build 1 more house in 2 years on my last move. I have a great time with my kids and grandkids. I enjoy doing lots of things, especially beating up the golf ball. As we are all realizing now, life is to short. Thats why I retired at 56. I started thinking the odds of me making another 56 are real slim so here I am. Oh yea, 2 dogs Toby and Tuffy and a great mouser cat, Jake. Well, thats it folks. Hope this one stays put. Bill School Biggest love in school was Juanita English in 9th and 10th. Biggest heartbreak ever was Juanita English. We went together 13 months. I last saw her in 71. Anybody know where she is? Beating Vallejo for the old North Bay League title is right behind Juanita. Can you believe I found her!!! in March of 2005 Workplace Dishwasher at the Overpass and Rudy's Supper Club, gas station attendent ay Miracle Gasoteria (now USA on Tennessee ST), boxboy at old Gemco, scorekeeper at all 3 bowling allys, processor at U S peroxygen in Richmond (blew up in 69), pulled chickens on a ranch, worked at both Drive In Movies, 34 years as a Union Sheetmetal Worker with 1 failed business in the mid 70s, 2 months as a postal worker (I don't deliver mail on Saturdays or in the snow but I sure have a bigger respect for postal workers now!!!) Thats it folks, nothing fancy just a worker. Military Went into boot camp in July of 66 at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego Ca. After infantry training at Camp Pendelton and Tank Crewman School at Del Mar ...Expand for more
I was sent to Camp Lejune North Carolina in December of 66. Stationed with 2nd Tanks until I was sent to Nam Sept 1st of 67. I was with C Co 3rd Tanks for 13 months. My whole time was spent in the DMZ at Con Thien, Khe Sanh, A-3 and Cua Viet. I got hit April 15th of 68 and spent a month in the hospital at Delta Med in Dong Ha. Before returning to duty I was sent to Hawaii on R&R, where I got to see Little Bill for the 1st time. He was born Jan 21st 1968, 10lbs 8 oz 23 1nches long. What a cool thing it was to see and hold him and my wife at the time. After 6 days its back to the Nam where I was sent home on my birthday 16 Oct 68. After a 30 day leave I was sent to Del Mar again, only as an instructor at Tank Crewman School. As a Sargent E5 grossing $291(LOL)a month I was able to live on the beach in Oceanside Ca. in a little pink 200 sq ft cottage. (Those same little pink cottages are still there today as a National Monument, surrounded by huge apartment and condo complexes. I saw them when I watched my youngest son graduate from Marine Corps boot camp in 98). In early May of 69 I was offered Staff Sgt E6 and $3500 to stay in for 6 more years. Trying to be funny, I asked the people over me if they were out of their minds. I guess it didn't set well with the powers above because the next day I was asked if I wanted an early out instead of waiting until July. So, on May 19 1969 (my Moms birthday), Billy Nipper was driving his 66 442 Olds from Camp Pendleton home to Vallejo . But that isn't the end.I still feel bad for my friends and all of the others who are on the wall. I think of them often. I want to see our kids get out of that damn Iraq and Afganistan. Are we going to give these kids a wall too? ITS BULL Well, its January of 08. Moved into my final home in May 07. Its in Fallon Nv. The shop, fencing and 75% of the landscape is done. Another grandchild was added last year. Thats 6. Blew the tranny 3 times last year in the race car. Hope this year is better. Just got my 1st Social Security check in December! LOL Lord, how the time flys. Well folks, thats my life. Looking forward to the 45th reunion this year.
