Blair's Story

Life After spending many years in the reserves and now in the regular forces I'm getting used to it. When I left high school I never thought I would end up in this kind of career but, things happen. At this time period in my life I'm married, no kids but 4 cats. I live in Nova Scotia and I'm taking the Naval Weapons Tech course at the Stadacona Base. I just finished almost a year of the academic portion of the course and start the applications part in June. Let me tell you when you haven't been in school for a long time getting back into the groove of academics is really hard. Way too many hours studying. I have a house in Cole Harbour and make my own beer and wine, and yes I make good beer/wine. :) Things have changed in the last few years. I have changed trades and now I'm a Steward in the Navy. You could call us the hospitality trade if you like. I'm posted to the HMCS Iroquois currently. Just came back from a 6 month tour of Op Altair which is part of Enduring Freedom. I'm on facebook if anyone is interested. Update 2013: I've done some more sailing. Op Caribbe was very nice, and a few other places. I liked Scotland. I thought they were nicer there then when I was visitng in Ireland. Military First I joined the Reserves as an Armoured Crewman in the Governor Generals Horse Guards. I was cross trained as a driver/gunner and had various other wheeled vehicle licenses. I spent many exercises training in the woods and the snow in Ontario and a few in the US (Fort Drum, New York and Fort Knox, Kentucky) most of the time. Some times the training was hard and tiresome and other times it was a blast. Took part in the Ice Storm we had in 1998 looking for and che...Expand for more
cking on people in Eastern Ontario. Lanark County to be exact. It was called OP Recuperation. I was asked to be a Lancer for Queen Elizabeth that same June when she unveiled a stained glass mural at the St. James Cathedral in downtown Toronto. Now I'm going through the long process of being trained as a Naval Weapons Tech at the Stadacona Base in Halifax. Update: I have changed trades and I'm now a Steward on the HMCS Iroquois. On my next course in Borden for a few months then back to Halifax, maybe I'll get to go back to the Gulf again. P.S. The ships I've been on so far are HMCS Ville De Quebec, HMCS St. John's, HMCS Toronto, the HMCS Iroquois, HMCS Preserver back to the St. John's ship and now the HMCS Fredericton. I get around don't I. Hobbies: Not really. Unless you can call renovating your house every few years a hobby and Geo Caching. :) I have taken Yoshinkan Aikido and have switched over to Gyoku Ryu Jiu-Jitsu. For those interested it's close to small circle jiu-jitsu. It's strictly self defence and very effective. Update: I've been living in St. John's, NL for the last two years working at the base there. CFS St. John's. I expect to be coming back home to Halifax in the summer of 2012. I've been on another career course for my next rank up the ladder. :O) (PLQ) and have had more training with the advanced medical first responder course level 2. I was involved in the relief effort for hurricane IGOR when it swept through here. I'm getting more involved in geo caching because it's fun to do and a global treasure hunt. Don't be a stranger. Drop by and say Hi!!! sometime. Remember Life's an adventure, Always have more dreams then memories. ;O)
