Bob's Story
I attended NKC public schools 1959-1968 under my stepfather's surname as Bob Baldwin. My actual surname is Kirby. As Bob Baldwin I attended Meadowbrook and Oak Wood Manor Elementary, then Antioch Jr. High. I would have attended Oak Park but went to live with my father in Western Kansas where I was known by my legal name Bob Kirby.
I worked a number of years while a college drop-out as a writer and broadcast journalist. I finally earned a BS journalism at KU in 1991.
My career took me to radio and television stations in Topeka, Lawrence, Shreveport, Dallas, Kansas ...Expand for more
City and Washington DC.
I was a writer and editor on the national desk at Associated Press Broadcast in WDC and was an editor at National Public Radio digital.
I also am a tech geek and technical writer of software manuals and help screens for software used in the broadcast industry.
I departed the east coast and returned to western Kansas in 2004 and was with High Plains Public Radio while caring for parents in their final years. I finished my career in 2019, sold my Colorado Springs property and bought a condo near the ocean at Myrtle Beach, where I've retired.
