College
I attended all girls King's Daughters' Hospital school of Nursing. Our curfew was 7pm and we had to walk!!from KDH to the old ACC building for classes the first year. My 1st day of pt care (only you of old hospital care will cmprehend) I placed a bedpan full of fecal matter into the oldtime wall hopper bedpan cleaners. I flushed the hopper appropriately...but i forgot to let the hopper door close. I was sent back to the dorm to change uniforms.
Workplace
i began my nsng career as a psych nurse. My parents felt i was changing and seemed quieter. they suggested i try another part of the h...Expand for more
ospital to work in. Intensive coronary care units were very new at this time and very few doctors, much less the general public, knew anything about CPR. I took the classes and began working "the unit"....In the first 7 days 7 people died!!! talk abpout getting quiet or depressed. one night i was offered a job by a physician and i jumped for it...not one of my smartest moves...i then was a stay at home mom for about 2years and that was when i started back to school. i applied to work at KDMC(now name change)in 1976. they requested i work psych for 3mo due do a shortage of staff. that was 29 years ago..and i'll probably be carried to the morgue from the Behm Unit.
