Bonita's Story
Life
I am married to Mark Altus and living near Sheridan Oregon on 30 acres. We have 3 cats, 2 rabbits, and 8 hens. Mark has a full-blown machine shop and we have the property in timber for tax deferral. It is a real haven for deer, which means we can't have gardens. Even the electric fence did not keep them out last summer. Mark and I both have our ham radio licenses, which is how we met. Ham radio operators can talk all over the world with the right license class, radios and antennas. We both have our extra class license, which is the highest license you can obtain. I have worked in healthcare information technology and medical records for the last 16 years - 11 in IT management, 2 in medical records management, and 3 as a systems analyst and network administrator. I have passed national credentialing exams to obtain the RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician), CHPS (Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security), and CPHIMS (Certified Professional in Health Information Management Systems). ety). In the ham radio community, I have been involved as a volunteer in many capacities. This includes president of the McMinnville Amateur Radio Club and Assistant Emergency Coordinator and Emergency Coordinator for the Yamhill County Amateur Radio Emergency Service. I am presently representing Amateur Radio on the Yamhill County Citizens Corps Council. I have been elected as the ARRL (American Radio Relay League) Oregon Section Manager by the Oregon ARRL Members, which is a volunteer position to oversee the ARRL volunteer programs in Oregon. Professionally, with HIMSS, I have been the Oregon chapter treasurer (1 year) and secretary (2 years) and I am on the CPHIMS Technical Committee of the national organization. With AHIMA, I am currently on the Clinical Terminologies Practice Council and on the CHPS Exam Construction Committee. At the state level (OrHIMA), I am finishing up a two-year term as Advocacy Director and will be running for President-elect for next year, which is a three-year commitment as President-elect, President, and past President. It seems that everything I get involved with, I am pushed into leadership positions, which will surprise you if you knew me in school since I was very shy.
