Bonnie's Story

Life After high school I went back to Erie. Attended college, earned a BS in sociology (Villa Maria College) and a teaching certificate (Edinboro U.). Later got my masters in education (Gannon U.). Taught for several years. Met my husband, Allan, when we were both 29, got engaged quickly and married in 6 months, as soon as the church would allow in June of 1981. Lived briefly in Denver, PA,(Near Lancater and Reading) mostly in Erie until 1996 when we moved to Cranberry, PA (near Pittsburgh) with my husband's job. Had a daughter, Amy, in 1984, and sons, Greg and Alex in 1986 and 1989. Made two wonderful trips by van to Spokane, where I grew up, seeing the sights along the way. Kids had been heavily into soccer...Expand for more
and Allan and I into coaching. Normal life ceased for us when Alex got Glioblastoma (brain cancer) in 1996 while in kindergarten. After several rounds of treatment in Pittsburgh and NYC the cancer was eradicted but he is still unrecovered - learning disabilities, platelets never recovered, etc. The very worst thing that has happened is that my husband died in 1999 from a cardiac condition that the doctors missed. Amy is now 18 and just graduated from North Catholic HS and is going to Lock Haven U in the fall. Greg is now almost 16 and finishing his freshman year at the local public school which he transfered to when Allan died. Alex is 13 and is finishing fifth grade, also in the public school when his health allows.
