Boyce Hugh's Story

Boyce was born is Wichita Falls on January 5, 1941. His Dad was the Agriculture Science teacher at Henritta High School. During the summers his family would stay in College Station, so that his Dad could work on his master's and administrative degrees. When he was twelve, the family moved to Hamilton, Texas where his Dad continued to teach Agriculture Science. Both of his parents were from Hamilton County, Texas. While in Hamilton, his Mom finished her degree in elementary education. Between his sophomore and junior years in high school, his Dad accepted a position as principal in Throckmorton, Texas. His Mom taught fifth grade. Boyce graduated from Throckmorton High in 1959. He entered Texas Technological College and began studying Mechanical Engineering. He was also a member of the R.O.T.C. program. Upon his graduation from college, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. in the U.S. Army. He received training in Aberdeen, MD and spent the next two years in Okinawa working with nuclear weapons. Upon his return to the US, he was hired as a mechanical engineer at Texas Instruments in Dallas. entistry, Caruth School of Dental Hygiene. He was concerned that she was a bit young, as she had just had her 21st birthday, but began a sweet courtship. She graduated in May of 1969 and they were married in August. In 1973 he was offered a job with the Western Company of North America. While employed there and living in Arlington, he earned his Master's in Business Administration degree, and two sons were born, Jason in 1974 and Ryan in 1978. Boyce was offered a position at Martin Sprocket and Gear in Arlington and did corporate development for them until his retirement. Boyce and Sandra stayed busy with their church, son's sports and Cub Scouts. Jason attended Austin College in Sherman and Baylor/Texas A.M. College of Dentistry in Dallas. Ryan attended Texas Christian University. Boyce and Sandra loved to travel and were in almost 80 different countries. Boyce developed a virus in his heart, which lead to congestive heart failure. He went from a pacemaker to a pacemaker/defibrillator. As his heart worsened, he went on the list for a new heart. He was on the list two days, when a heart became available. The transplant was done at Baylor Hospital, Dallas. The transplant failed two years later, and he passed away on February 16, 2019.
