Boyd's Story
Life
We live in Draper, Utah and love it here. In May 2007 my wife Carissa and I started a community-based information and entertainment-type website, onlinedraper - dot - com, to share our musings about the world and provide an information source for other Draper-area residents. If you happen to go to the site, let me know what you think. We're having fun with it.
College
Okay, so I was one of three 1988 BRHS grads who attended the University of Utah. Lance split for Utah State after fall quarter, David split to work on his grandpa's farm after winter quarter, and I finished my freshman year all by my lonesome. Whoa, that sounds worse than it was -- I actually was happy to get rid of those slobs (: } ). Had a funny little apartment on 10th East in Salt Lake, between South Temple and 100 South. The neighbor across the hall kept getting his power turned off for nonpayment so he'd plug his vacuum into the outlet in the hallway and clean his apartment that way. I periodically see him at various community events, and apparently he is a well-known local character.
Left the U after freshman year for a two-year Spanish-speaking mission in New York City. Came back to the U in the fall of 1991, and graduated in June 1995 with a degree in Political Science an a degree in Speech Communications. Big surprise there, huh? (Looking back, I should have taken some accounting classes and more theater classes -- accounting because it would be useful today, theater so I ...Expand for more
would have had more fun.) Actually, I had a theater instructor my sophomore year who stopped me on campus after the class had ended and said, "you know, I've been in this business for 20 years, and so I'd never recommend anyone enter this profession -- but if you want to, I'd encourage you to do it." Maybe I should have taken her advice -- I'm sure that acting would have been much more fun than being a lawyer. You might be surprised to find out that the last time I did any acting was in March 1993, more than 13 years ago. What a waste. I need to find a way to get back into it.
So, I met my wife at the U on April Fool's Day in 1993 and we got married in July 1994. Coming up on the completion of twelve blissful years. Three kids.
During college I worked at the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce as an assistant to both the membership director and the accountant until about 1994. Then I got a job in broadcasting, doing radio traffic reports for a company that provided them to a number of SLC radio stations. From that I went to doing traffic reports solely for one broadcasting company which had four radio stations, and then eventually became a talk-show host on what used to be KCNR 1320 AM. I did the morning show solo for a while, but it was too much for me to do four hours alone, so they brought in a couple of co-hosts and we were the "Morning Express." That lasted up until about May of 1995, when I graduated college and moved to New York City for law school.
