Brad's Story
Here are the Bear Facts:
After Ballard I enrolled at UK as an Architecture major.
Graduated with a BArch degree from University of Kentucky College of Architecture, 1979 (5 year program).
Married the former Kathy Gipe (Westport High School)(Also a UK graduate, Physical Therapy major) on October 11, 1980. Yes, we are still happily married.
Worked in Louisville for small Architectural firms 1980-1982. During that time, the job market in Kentucky stunk for local Architects.
We moved to Dallas, Texas in April 1982. I doubled my salary, too. I selected a large Architectural firm, HKS, Inc. over other job offers.
Son born March 2, 1983. Bradley Steven, Jr.
Daughter born February 27, 1987. Laura D.
Left HKS, Inc. for RTKL in 1994. Got to travel to Sweden and Saudi Arabia for Healthcare projects.
Returned to HKS, Inc. in 1998 continuing my career working on large Hospital projects. Became a Vice President in January, 2002. Just finished construction documents for the renovation of the hospital at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. Will be starting work on a replacement Hospital at Ft. Knox. With both of our children active in Lake Highlands High School Marching Band, we became very active in the band, too. Along with being Band Club Presidents, I was also Co-Director of the annual DCI Drum and Buggle Corp show "The Festival of Drums and Buggles".
Being active as a "Pit Pop" for the High School Band led to the forming of my current "Dad Band". Since all of the original members had had kids in the LH Marching Band, we took the name "The PiT PoPs" and started practicing in ...Expand for more
October of 2000. Believe it or not, I played Bass in High School in the Band "Essikiah" with my cousin, Chip Blackwell, David Reid and Howie Gano, all from Westport High School (class of 1974). My "then" photo was taken at a dance at Westport HS November 30, 1973. I sold all my gear when I went off to UK. I now wish I had kept it!!
There are some photos posted of The PiT PoPs from some of our gigs. We still have FUN playing and it is also fun for our wives and friends. We limit the number of gigs to about two per month since it is not our day job! The Band has a web page. (w w w dot pitpops dot com) My "now" photo was taken in front of the American Airlines Center in Dallas. We were playing for a pre-game party before a Dallas Mavericks playoff game in 2009.
My son Steven graduated from Texas A&M University in May, 2007. He was in the Corp of Cadets and proud member of B-Company in the Fighting Texas Aggie Band. He is married and working for Disney in Orlando, Florida.
My daughter Laura graduated in May, 2009 from Texas A&M University as a Kinesiology Major. She graduates from Nursing School at A&M Corpus Christi August 6, 2011. She got married in May 2011 to a Navy Pilot and will be moving to Virginia where he continues F-18 Super Hornet training.
The empty nest syndrome is a wonderful time in our lives! We enjoy flying back to Louisville on Southwest Airlines since I fly them a lot for my projects. My parents sold the old home in Hills and Dales and now have a condo in Louisville. There is still a chance that we will visit Kentucky at any time.
We really Love Texas! It truly has the "Can Do" attitude.
