Brenda's Story

I moved to coast of California after high school then moved back to Bakersfield then met my brother's room mate when he was in the airforce and moved to Oregon and got married & had two sons.My oldest son's name is Dale which is 6'foot tall which wife's name is Rhayanna and my youngest son's name is Dusty which is 6'foot 5" inches tall.We are very proud of both of our sons.I also have a step daughter, which I am very proud of, named Jen and son-in-law named Jeff. I have 2 granddaughters, named Jessica and Alexis and one little grandson named Chance.I managed a gas station, opened a saddle, tack and boot repair shop and also had new saddles and tack, did that for over 16 years while doing books for husbands towing and wrecking yard businesses for several years.Owned and operated an auto parts store for a few years. Now live in Nv and am a seamstress for a office chair manufacturing company. We have even made chairs for the Pentagon. These aren't chairs that you can buy in the stores as the are more elaborate. I've always been a very active person. Come home periodically to see what family I have left there in Bakersfield. Don't know where all my friends went. Would like to find some of them. I have 25 brass horses which is why I have the email address of brasshorse53.I have recently bought an older big bronze statute of a mare and a stallion,(horses) made by Pierre Jules Mene. It is beautiful! If anyone wants to email me they can. I also have a few ceramic horses and some bronze figures. I have always had a love for horses and most all animals. I originally wanted to be an animal veterinarian, but I didn't want to go to college for 8 years, so that changed my mind. My Dad and Mom asked me after I grew up if I had ever dreamed I would be a seamstress and I told them, no I didn't. But I do like to sew. When we was little my Grandma Clara Puryear gave us girls some JC Penny's and Sears Catalogs and she told us we could cut out some of the people in there and then cut out some clothes in there and that could be our paper dolls. We even cut out the guys. I also used to pretend I was a designer and I sketched out some different styles of clothes on paper. My Grandma Puryear was a very smart Grandma and a great cook.We loved to go to our other grandparent's house too as we had a lot of fun with them. There names was Wes and Gladys David. Grandma would take us places while Grandpa worked. Grandma would take us out to their oil fields to see Grandpa and I always thought the oil rigs looked like giant grasshoppers.I just loved going out there.Sure miss all of them. so many people that have gotten laid off from their jobs.I feel so fortunate. We went down to Yuma, Arizona and moved my in-laws up to Reno, as they are not really able to take care of themselves anymore. They will be living with us. My brother-in-law got to our house before we did and my youngest son found his uncle unconscious in his pickup. They brought him in house and tried to revive him along with peramedics, when they came, and they had no luck.We was all so very upset to have this happen the same night we got back into town. He had terminal cancer. They said they thought he might have coughed so hard that he had a coronary. He smoked till the night he died. We hope we can make it through these trying times.I am sure it will be rough as it has already started out that way.Feb. 13th 4:15 a.m.: Today is the day of brother-in-law, Leon's viewing and I had to get up and hook my father-in-law up to oxygen as he was having a hard time breathing. Hope he will be ok. We have lots of company here so it will be a real busy day.March 3rd 2010: What a rough year already! My father-in-law passed away yesterday, on March 2, 2010, 4 days after my birthday and 4 days before my oldest son's birthday. Not even 1 month has passed since losing my brother-in-law. Wow, what a shock! Mother-in-law is taking it pretty good, although she is sure tired. Today I stayed home from work again as I had lots of phone calls to make cancelling appointments and calling s.s. insurance co. and etc.Going to try to shampoo carpet in 3 rooms and 1 hallway yet this afternoon. Then tomorrow have more phone calls to make to family and friends. Asked my boss if I could just take the rest of the week off. He said he would see me Monday. Nice to have a good boss and a good company to work for.We will have more company coming this weekend because of this sad event. My oldest son's friend Kelly, which has been more like a brother to him, is coming with his wife to be with us.And there will be more people coming too. That will keep me busy cooking and cleaning. But at least I get extra time off. Hope the year will get better than it has been so far. Update: I lost my oldest sister,Karen, to breast cancer in Nov of 2010, so we have had a pretty rough year and glad it is almost over. Sure miss her. I have lost track of how many brass horses I have now! I even have bronze horses. 2 of the bronze statutes I have are bigger and was made by Pierre Jules Mene'. They are awesome! I have always had a love for horses, and have always gotten along with the live ones. We have 3 horses out back, in the corral. One Paint horse, one Arabian and one quarterhorse.
