Bret's Story
Life
My NOT SO Short Bio;
In a nut shell: I am a God fear'in, American, a former Marine (once a Marine Always a Marine) and an all around car guy. In fact I've been told I'm a bit obsessed with all things automotive.
I am also a bit of a history nut and love books of the old west. Im well traveled - thanks to the Marine Corps and my careers over the years, but I do enjoy getting away on my own from time to time. Even if that only involves taking the longer scenic route home.
I'm a bit adventurous & love the outdoors and kind of like to rough it sometimes & can enjoy cold beer by a bonfire. But I am also house broken and have been told I clean up pretty well. I am also versed enough to mingle with the polite society if the need arises.
My Family:
I am the father of 6 children and am also a Grandpa three times over. The older four children are from my first marriage and the two younger children are from my last relationship (never married) where I share custody with their mother. The older four children from my first marriage are all out in the world making a life for themselves. Three are married.
Also two children followed in my footsteps and served in the Military.
Daughter - US Air Force reserves.
Son - US Navy.
As for me after North High School:
United States Marine Corps. September 1977-1981. Huey UH-1N Helicopter jet engine mech & aircrew.
After the Corps:
I had a few odd jobs while I sorted things out & finally went to school nights (thanks to the GI Bill) and started my career in electronics working for Hughes Aircraft in Torrance. It was about this time that I met my ex-wife and started my family.
Collage:
While I never actually finished my BSEE I did get an AS in Electronics.
Professionally:
I've been working as a Field S...Expand for more
ervice Engineer since the late 80's when I got laid off from Hughes Aircraft when the cold war was winding down and Peace was breaking out all over the place. Or so we thought prior to 9/11/2001.
Anyway after 8 plus years at Hughes, I spent a lot of time working in various companies flying all over the country and as well as a little overseas - servicing various electrical devices & systems of all sorts.
I'm currently working with security & industrial x-ray imaging/scanning equipment. I love it! Because I get to work with law enforcement and the Military making sure that they have the training & tools they need to keep us safe and get the bad guys.
Other Field Service jobs: Service & installations of Medical x-ray imaging (Mammography, Surgical & Cathlabs) & Oncology treatment systems. Aerospace & wireless communications and SMT (Surface Mount Technology) high speed & high volume pick & place automated systems used in circuit board manufacturing. I also tinkered a bit here & there in some of those jobs with Robotics as well.
Amoug the weirdest jobs I've ever had:
An "un-armed" security guard in Inglewood, CA., where I almost got killed one night! Four years in the Marine Corps only to come home and almost get waxed for Minimum wage. Yes, I quit the next day.
A Rough Neck working on oil rigs in Texas. After 4 years in the Marine Corps I thought I knew what hard work was. While bullets coming at you is scary enough - oil rigging was the hardest physical job I ever had. Probably why I quit a month later.
Oh well that's it.
