Brian's Story

• After graduation in 1963 I was accepted in the U of Manitoba, Winnipeg, with a scholarship to take science classes required for the College of Dentistry. I had too good a time and failed. • I got a job as a bank junior which was lower than a teller. I took a couple classes at Regina College which, halleluiah, I passed. I then went to the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon and took Marketing in the College of Commerce. I still had a good time but kept my nose to the grindstone. • I met a young lady who played center for the U of S Huskiettes Women’s Basketball Team in a pub. She invited me to a Sadie Hawkins dance. We dated for a year and half and were married in the summer between my third and fourth year. My wife Judy and I have shared a tube of toothpaste for 45 years. • I have always had an interest in athletics and sat on the U of S Men’s Athletic Board whose job was to run the men’s intercollegiate athletic program. I was member for three years and the president for two. • I graduated in 1970 with a B. Comm degree in Marketing. My first job was with Sears in Saskatoon in the sporting goods department. I started to take MBA classes but I didn’t continue on to get that degree. • In 1972 I was hired by IBM in Saskatoon and moved to Vancouver where I have lived ever since. There I was exposed to tons of courses the best of which was executive type training at the University of Western Ontario. • I had lots of interesting jobs with them, li...Expand for more
ke guest lecturer in one of their sales classes in Toronto, Product Manager Western Canada for the Selectric Typewriter (golf ball typewriter) and manager of their second personal computer store in the IBM world in Vancouver. I had lots of sales jobs in all three of their divisons. I was one of six people that worked in all three IBM divisions when I left. • In 1990 I joined Western Integrated Technology which was owned by the utility BC Hydro. It was dragged back into BC Hydro a couple years later and then outsourced again to Accenture. I sat on the other side of the fence and made the utility some very good computer deals from a whole raft of companies. I retired in 2005. • In retirement I became involved in a junior football team because my son was playing for them. I became President, got the team out of bankruptcy and was awarded the CJFL Executive of the Year for Canada in 1994.. • Judy and I have two children, a boy and a girl and four grand children, ranging in age from 11 to 4. • Judy and I consider ourselves to be considerably lucky to lead the life we have. We shared Canuck season tickets, wintered in Palm Springs. We have traveled to Australia, Tasmania, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Mexico and New York City to name few and cruised Alaska, the Panama Canal, Hawaii, and Mexico and with stops along the way. We plan to continue doing this. This year we ended on list on our bucket list as we went to the Maritimes so have seen every Canadian province.
