Brian's Story

Life Updated 10/31/2007 I have been married to my wonderful wife Allison since 1984. We have been blessed with three great kids. Zach was born in 1986, Katie in 1987, and Brianna in 1989. Zach is still going to a local community college (Glendale Community College). Zach is interested in engineering and Katie was studying Archeology but has changed to business. Brianna is a very good student who is involved to the hilt and a typical high school drama queen. They are all great kids and I thank God for them. We are fortunate to have them still at home Kate deciced to go to ASU and is commuting from home. I think that Zach will probably go to Arizona State and stay here with us too if he ever gets out of GCC. He took after his father and is getting a slow start with this college thing. We are fortunate in that we still like having our kids with us and get along really well. I have been working the same career field for going on 29 years. I work in research and development of gas turbine engines. The company name has changed several times over but I have worked in the same department throughout. I did spend ten years in management but when we were acquired by Allied Signal the powers that be returned several of us to the ranks to protect us from layoff. It worked, thank God. I still enjoy my job with the exceptions that are natural and normal in any working environment. The other major change is that my job left Connecticut in 1996 and I was forced to decide if I wanted to remain employed and move to Phoenix Arizona or not. At the time I had 18 years with the company so it was not too difficult to decide. We have had the opportunity to see the southwest. We have been exposed to a much wider variety of experiences than if we had stayed in the wonderful, safe, and sleepy town of Harwinton Connecticut. I got involved in scouting when Zach was 6 and Zach is an Eagle scout and I and all of my kids are still involved. We work in a program called Venturing ...Expand for more
which is a program under the auspices of Boy Scouts of America but is open to 14 to 20 year old boys and girls. I firmly believe that this has been one of the greatest things I could have done to be involved with my kids lives and we have had some great fun together in this program. We are still friends which I am very proud to be able to say in this day and age. That's not to say that we don't have the normal parental/child issues at times, we have but they have usually worked out to the aggreement of both sides. When I left St Mary's I pretty much left the Catholic church and stayed away for about 20 years. Having children brought me back to the church and I now find that having renewed my spirituality has brought great meaning and peace into my life. I love my faith family and spend alot of time with them as well. I got involved in youth ministry back in about 1991 and working with youth has taught me much about my faith and was instrumental in renewing my relationship with Christ (I expect that He had something to do with it too). I am also glad that the Catholic church has changed some of it's approaches too. I love working with kids. They challenge me and force me to learn and to maintain an open mind. What a blessing kids have been in my life. I want to say hi to all of my old friends. You have all had an effect on my life and I thank you for that. I hope to hear from some of you as friendship is something to be cherished and remembered. God bless you all and I hope to hear from some of you. Not many changes since my last update. I still work with 7th and 8th graders in Youth Group (we used to call it CYO) and stilll love it. We are going to the National Catholic Youth Conference in Columbus Ohio in a couple of weeks and I can't wait. It is difficult to discribe the spiritual experience of a gathering of 20,000 Catholic youth in one place all filled with the Holy Spirit. I hope to hear from some of you. brian.ferberathoneywell.com Brian
