Brian's Story
Life
What a difference a kick in the butt made. In 1979 I decided to join the Army. I worked as a Helicopter Mechanic for 5 years then selected for a Helicopter Inspector course, after training I tested and earned my FAA aircraft mechanics license. I started college in 1984, attending evening classes with Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.
In 1986, I was selected to become a (WO) Warrant Officer serving as an Aviation Maintenance Technician. Prior to be promoted to I attended training for 1 year. The next assignments were Korea, Fort Ord (Monterey) Calif. and Hawaii where I completed a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics.
On 1 April 1999, I retired as a (CW3) Chief Warrant Officer 3 with 20 years of service. I decided 20 years of aviation was enough, so I perused a career in the Information Technology field. I acquire the (MCSE) Microsoft Certified System Engineer that placed my foot in the civilian world. I started working for GTE/Verizon in Stuttgart, Germany as a Field Engineer for Defense Information Systems Agency - Europe. My work allowed me to travel all over Europe and Southwest Asia.
Life in Germany was great however, after 5 years it was time to move. In 2003 I moved to Korea working as a Project Manager for CACI managing contracts and personal in Korea and Japan. We moved back to the USA after 11 years oversea, I am working as the Network Engineer in NM on the (UAV) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle project. Its to early to retire so work continues.
In Aug 2005 I purchased a house in Estes Park, CO to on day come home to live again. We do visit often and now were a quick 8.5 drive away our summer weekends will be at home. In 2007 I married to my beautiful wife and partner Julalak. In 2008 we purchased 30 acres of land in the village her family has lived for hundreds of years in Thailand. We started with a farm that had not been worked for over 20 years and after 3 years it is looking more like a ...Expand for more
working farm and our home in the winter. Our plan is to work the summers in Estes Park the winter farming in Thailand. I am truly "Living a Dream"
I ended up going to Iraq in 2010-11 for 13 months working as the Engineering & Installation Manager for the Green Zone, my team installed network and computer systems. I came back to our Estes Park home for awhile, .. :) back to Stuttgart, Germany for 8 month back at DISA, followed be 5 months on our Thailand farm. Estes Park for a year and currently working a GS IT Specialist for the govt in Colorado Springs Mon-Fri back to Estes on the weekends. Times up,, Time to go back to Seoul, Korea as a DISA Field Engineer for up to 4 years. What an opportunity at this time in my life, some at our age are ready to retire.. Not Me. :) I have to much energy to sit and wonder what I will do today. Now we have to decide where will we travel in Asia this long weekend.
Life is so good for me now. I look back at my attitude in JHS / HS and wow.. what was I thinking.
Well here it is at the end of 2021, were almost retirement age. Where did all the time go, I am so happy and lucky to live the life I do, great wife, health and happiness. I am still working for DOD as a Network Engineer, living in Estes Park. I hope our class 1975 .. looking back made a difference in the world and proud of their accomplishments. I lived 30 years of my life overseas, loosing track of most our Fairview class, would be fun to get together.
What a difference a boot in the butt made. I often wonder where I would be today had I not made a decision in 1979 to join the military it truly was a great place to start for me. I look forward to hearing from anyone that knew me in Boulder or during my travels. My email is (bjphe at hot mail) I have to leave out the AT sign, classmate won't post an email. Write me it would be fun to hear from you. I hope life has been as good to you as me. Take care - Brian
