Brian's Story
Life
Life is life at the moment. In august 2007 i bought a house just outside of Norwalk. It's keeping me somewhat busy to be a homeowner. But i don't mind it. At least i'm finally living on my own.
I spend my time mostly at home doing whatever. I'd go out if i had any money to do so. But i'm pretty broke and have to be in save mode pretty much all the time. If i'm not at home them i'm usually spending time with friends or family or i'll travel around Ohio or to some of the adjacent states to hang out with friends or whatever.
School
School back then wasn't exactly a humble experience for me. My extreme shyness, nervousness, and anxiety prevented me from making many friends. I didn't have many good experiences. And any that i did have were few and far between. Still, though, i made it through. And even though i have several regrets on things i wish i did or did not do. At this point i can only try and forget about it and just look forward to the future. I have to admit that even though i wasn't friends with the majority of my classmates i still wonder what they are all up to. And sometimes i wish i had tried to be friends with them...
I went through a 4 year apprenticeship program through my current employer. I graduated from the program in 2006 and receiving my journeyman's card for Tool Makers, Bench. It basically means i'm capable of repairing molds. ("Tools" is another term for molds.) The only problem? The title is something my employer came up with and won't be recognized by any other employer. So if i tried to us...Expand for more
e it to get another job it wouldn't help at all. About the only thing taking all those classes was good for was the raise we would get for each one we passed. The school we attended was crap, anyways and i hardly learned anything. Hell, i've forgotten most of what i learned...
Workplace
After HS graduation i had a job as a machinist but was laid off about a year later due to the economy going to bad. I landed a job where i currently work as a product packer at Venture Packaging in Monroeville. There all i did was put plastic bowls, buckets, containers, and lids in boxes.
In February of 2002 i bid into a job within the company for a job in the Tooling department. Thanks to my background and experience in machining i got the job. And i've been there ever since. My job is to clean, repair, install, and maintain the molds used by the company. We are a plastic injection molding company. We make plastic bowls, buckets, containers, and lids in various shapes and sizes. Look at the bottom of a bowl, bucket or lid and if you see "Berry Plastics" or "Venture Packaging" then you might just be holding a part that i have a hand in making.
As far as future plans go. Well, i don't necessarily plan on working at Venture/Berry till i retire. But at the moment the pay is good enough that i don't need to search for a different job. However in the future i would like to own my own machine/fabrication shop. If i take the time and learn everything to do with metal work now i can gain the experience and knowledge necessary to make things for profit.
