Bron's Story

1958 Once upon a time, a LONG TIME AGO, I was born in Fort Worth, Texas - Harris Hospital to be exact, so I am officially a native Texan. 1961 - 1966 We lived in Fort Worth until I was 3, then my father was transferred to Atlanta, GA. In first and second grade I attended Tara Elementary in Atlanta. Actually it is located at 937 Mt. Zion Road- Morrow, GA 30260 which is just south of Atlanta. We lived just a few blocks away from the school on Bimini Dr. I didn't know until I was older that Tara was the name of the plantation in "Gone with the Wind". I do remember that as a first and second grader we thought it was cool that Tara spelled backwards is "A Rat" - sounds like something a first grader would think of right... My sister, Kim, was born in April of 1962 in Atlanta, so she is officially a "Georgia Peach". 1966 - 1967 At the end of my second grade school year, my father was transferred back to Fort Worth. We moved back that summer and lived in a rent house on Evelyn Drive in Richland Hills. I attended third grade at Glenview Elementary. In the fall of 1966 my family bought a couple of acres in Keller from my dad's brother, Willie Praslicka. Mom had always liked old homes and antiques, and so they were excited to find an old abandoned home in Haslet. They bought the home and had it moved to the property at 1331 Bancroft Road just north of Mount Gilead Baptist church. I remember the house being moved that spring. It was a two story house and too big to be moved in one piece - so they actually cut the house in half - moved the two pieces and then put it back together - pretty cool. 1967 - 1976 I started to Keller Elementary in the 4th grade, which the Elementary back then was the building they now use for the Administrative building on FM 1709. I graduated from Keller High School in 1976. 1976 - 1983 I attended Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth my Freshman year. But I didn't know what I wanted to major in, and felt like I was just wasting my time so I left after the first year. I decided to work for a year or two and decide what I wanted to be when I grew up. After several years of working I decided to go back to College, but this time I decided to go away from home. I ended up going to Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, TX. I went there for several years and really loved the college and the people, but I was majoring in Computer Science, and their program was still very new and I wanted to find a school that had a stronger program. I ended up leaving mid-year, over Christmas break, and changing to North Texas University (which was North Texas State University at that time). I graduated in December of 1983 with a BS in Computer Science. 1984 - 1995 I met a girl from Irving during college and we married in 1985. We lived in Irving for almost 15 years and during that time we had 3 children. Our daughter Brianne was the first, born in 1987. Brice, our second, was born in 1991 (on Christmas day), and Bryton our youngest boy was born in 1996. I went to work in the Business System Consulting sector, working for companies like Grant Thornton, Arthur Andersen and Deloitte. I enjoyed the 11 years I worked in the sector and learned a great deal. 1995 - 2001 In 1995 the Internet suddenly became real and businesses wanted to migrate to the web. I ended up joining several web focused consulting companies such as USWeb...Expand for more
/CKS. It was a blast working with companies trying to help them move their businesses to the Internet. It was a wild ride and I enjoyed the challenge - but we were all pretty surprised when the dot com bubble burst in 2000 - 2001. When the dust settled, I found myself, along with a lot of my peers, looking for a new career. I moved into Financial Services and got my Stock Broker and Financial Advisor Licenses. I enjoy the world of Wall Street but it is pretty unstable right now. 2002 - 2006 In 2003 we moved back to Keller and lived there until November of 2006. Mom and Dad had moved into my grandmothers old home and let us move back to Keller to live in the house where I grew up. The kids loved it since we lived on about 9 wooded acres with my parents only about 100 yards away. But Keller had grown a lot and was still growing which also meant taxes and cost of living were much higher than ever. The other problem mom and dad faced with the property was that because they had been there for so long - the property had actually never been officially platted by the city - which meant that if anything ever happened to one of the houses - they city would not allow them to rebuild on the property. While real estate prices were still pretty high - they decided the best thing to do would be to try to sell the land and the homes. So in late September of 2006 they sold all of the land and the old homes to a builder. We heard he was planning on building new homes for himself and several of his kids - shortly after we moved out in December of 2006 they brought in bull dozers and leveled the old houses. But as 2007 approached the real estate market began to collapse - and so they evidently decided not to build. So the last time I looked the property is still sitting empty. 2006 - present We moved to Double Oak (which is the Western part of Flower Mound) in December of 2006 and still live there today. It worked out nicely for us because Brice and Bryton had started attending a great private school named Coram Deo Academy that is in Flower Mound. It was about a 30 minute drive from Keller, but now we live less than 4 miles away. So - if you actually read all of that - you obviously need to get a hobby or something. But thanks for humoring me. As you can tell that's just the high points - I left out the story of how I got stuck in a fence upside down while Trick-or-Treating with Gary Craig in Keller our 4th grade year. Or how dangerous it was to play dodge ball in the old rock gym at Keller Elementary. If David Novak didn't kill you with his 200 mph throw, you usually ended up smacking you head on one of the rocks that stuck out of the wall. No one ever thought to hang those pads on the walls in those days. I wonder if anyone else remembers the Keller Fair that happened every summer just before school started. They still have it, but it has changed a lot. For one thing they don't have the guy with the rat that ran around on the big color wheel. You would bet a quarter (or more) on the color that you thought the rat would run to - and if you won you would double your money. I also left out the story of how Billy Jackson and Craig Barrett caught Craig's dad's brand new 1976 Silverado pickup on fire with fireworks on New Years eve 1975. - but those are stories for another time so for right now - that's my story and I'm stickin to it!
