Bruce's Story
Life
I work as the Wildlife Viewing Biologist for the Yukon Department of Environment. My passion is plants, I have built a herbarium (plant collection) in my basement. My hobby allows me to travel throughout the north. There are no botanists in any government in northern Canada. I worked on a 2 year term as a botanist for NatureServe Yukon (Yukon's Conservation Data Centre). I have two kids Seth Lukas Antony (born Dec.17th, 2003) and Kalie Lynn Lisa (born Dec.31st, 2005). We have only 3 channels on the TV CBC English CBC French and the First Nations Television Network. We built the dream home on 3 acres on the edge of town with a creek in our backyard which attracts the occasional moose but lots of birds. My wife Randi Mulder and have traveled throughout the territory by canoe....Expand for more
We have 2 17ft Tripper canoes with all the associated camping gear.
Workplace
After high school I worked at Expo 86 in Vancouver. In 1987 I moved back to Victoria and worked at Swan Lake - Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary as a naturalist. 1988-1990 I worked as a naturalist in Manning Provincial Park. In 1991 I worked at the Royal BC Museum in Victoria as a collection manager in botany. In 1993 I began work for the Canadian Wildlife Service in Delta as a forest bird and plant community technician. In 1995 I was reassigned to Yukon. In 1998 I left CWS to complete a Masters Degree at the University of Alaska but dropped that when I got my present job as the Yukon's wildlife viewing biologist (kind of a naturalist for the whole territory). Who knows what I will do when I grow up.
