Bruce's Story
I attended George Washington University, School of Engineering, I then served in the US Marine Corp. Upon completion of my service in 1968 I decided I no longer wished to be an engineer but rather teach. So I went to Colorado State College in Greeley, as of May 1970 it is the Univ of Northern Colorado. The school mascot was a bear, but I never saw one at the games so for one game I dressed as a bear, Winnie the Pooh, had a bucket loaded with candy and walked on the field. I was immediately recruited to join the Cheer Leaders as Mr. Bear. I served in that grizzly capacity until I graduated and went off to UCLA for graduate school. I completed an MA and was advanced to candidacy for the PhD but teaching opportunities were no existent and so lacking funds to pay for rent, school and food. I bit the bullet and went back to engineering and construction management. Forty years later,...Expand for more
and after score of international and domestic mega-projects, I retired and opened my own consulting practice as a testifying expert in construction disputes and litigation. I retired, finally, 10 years later. I now travel, play pickleball and enjoy good food and great wine.
My career gave me the opportunity to live and work all over the world. The list of where I have not lived and worked is shorter then where I did live. Over the years I made some mistakes and when younger I may have regretted them, but as I grew older I recognized that without the mistakes and the lessons learned I would not be who I am today. I think that is true of all of us.
I do have two great accomplishments in my life. The first was my time as Mr. Bear! and the second and far more important was to be born again and accepting Jesus Christ as my personal savior. I highly recommend it to everyone.
