Bruce's Story
No beard anymore.
After Columbia I went to Rutgers (New Brunswick). BTW, I suppose I should set the record straight 47 years later--I was actually the first member of the class to gain early decision for college. Our yearbook says otherwise, but no one ever asked me.
I met my future wife (still married to her) in college (she went to Douglass) and then went on to grad school at NYU. Got an MA in College Personnel Administration and took a job as Director of Student Activities at University of Pittsburgh. Started my PhD there, but an impending draft notice scotched that and I enlisted in the AF in 1968 to avoid ...Expand for more
the Army.
After Basic Training I was selected for Officer Training School and was commissioned in August 1969. I retired as a colonel at the end of 1994.
In the AF I was a Personnel and Training Officer, taught AFROTC at West Virginia University, commanded a Basic Training squadron, and had my four unpleasant years at the Pentagon.
During my years in uniform, I got another Masters degree from Auburn, and we had a daughter. She is now married and has two children, one adopted from Guatemala.
I now work as the Training and Performance Manager at a DOE Physics Research Lab and have no plans to retire anytime soon.
