Bruce's Story
I graduated Pierre Radisson Collegiate (High School) in 1978. I joined the military, and during that summer I attended basic officer training in Chilliwack, BC.
In the fall of that year I went to the University of Manitoba, taking electrical engineering and graduating in 1982. During the summers off from university, I attended various military training schools including two French immersion courses (which I never really mastered).
In the fall of 1982, I went to the air navigation school in Winnipeg, and in spring of 1983 I was posted to 415 Maritime patrol squadron in Greenwood, Nova Scotia. That squadron shut down during a round of military spending cuts years ago, but the people involved now fly for 405 squadron.
Moving to Greenwood involved more flying training. The CP-140 Aurora is a four engine turbo-prop patrol aircraft that conducts anti-submarine warfare.

was a civilian flying club conveniently located on the military base, and I was a part time flight instructor there until I left the military.
I was on squadron until 1987, when I was posted to 14 software engineering squadron, which kept me at Greenwood.
My wife Wanda and I were married in 1988. She was an "officer's wife" until 1990, when I left the military and moved back to Winnipeg to work at Bristol Aerospace. After those years in the military, I am considered to be "retired".
That same year, 1990, our first son Braeden was born. Our second son, Caston, was born in 1996.
In 1997 I received a job offer from "Flight Dynamics" of Portland, Oregon. We moved in spring of that year. The company is now owned by Rockwell Collins, with the head office in Iowa. The Portland side of the company designs head-up displays for commercial and military aircraft. The product is called a Head-up Guidance System, or HGS.
