Brunetta's Story
After Curtis, I traveled for a while. I moved to San Francisco. Worked for CSAA. Moved back to Tacoma. Worked for a Magazine Distributor. Moved to Puyallup. Worked as a Nanny for 6 Children. Moved to Alaska. Just off Sand Point, worked on a Shrimp Processing Ship; in Kodiak, worked as a Waitress; on Spruce Island (just off of Kodiak Island) with my Fiancé, fished for Shrimp & Salmon. Moved back to Tacoma. (Lived across the Alley right behind Mom & Dad briefly. Waitressing again. Hit the Road doing Traveling Sales. Moved to Lincoln City, waitressing. Moved south to Depot Bay and worked in the Crab Packing Plant then up in the Depot Bay Fish Market. Moved further south to Newport. Waitressed for a while then served as a Teacher's Assistant in a Day Care Center. Returned to Tacoma again and started the Accounting Program at TCC. Waitressed at the Spouting Toad for a while then went to work in Gig Harbor as Bookkeeper for a Well Drilling Firm. Almost got my Associates Degree but didn't. Left Tacoma for Saint Helens, Oregon, and I've been here ever since (except for a few years up in Beaverton.) Started working as Bookkeeper for my Church and working as Cashier & Counter Help at an Auto Parts Store. Then went to work as Bookkeeper for a Wrought Iron Manufacturer. Worked at NIKE for 3 Years until I was downsized out. Went to work for myself as a Computer Programs Tutor / Consultant and Small Business Bookkeeper. Kept Books for a Land Developer, a General Contractor, a Specialty Contractor, a Manufacturer of Toiletries, and even a Real Estate Investor w/ Rental Properties. Did that for years until I finally converted one of my Clients into my Employer ¿ USIA Underwater Equipment Sales Corp. We manufacture Dry Suits for Divers and Surface Suits for Water Sports as well as Bags and other Tactical / Water related Equipment.
Loved Alaska. Want to go back there some day. But not sure if I am capable of living as I did there now. Too old and too fat. (Not that I was skinny then!) It was most definitely a different lifestyle. Spent all my time with the King Crab & Shrimp Fishermen before I got engaged. And my Fiancé was a Native Russian Aleut. Spent more time on the Fishing Boats than I did anywhere else at times. And I was definitely a Party Girl. But that was the Crowd I hung out with.
Went back to College a second time after I moved down here. Portland Community College. Star...Expand for more
ted out in the Business Program but took Classes that interested me, not the Classes I needed to get my Degree. Archaeology, Astronomy, Ancient History, stuff like that. So still don't have a College Degree.
Been engaged twice. Never married. Therefore never had any children. Although I've helped raise several different friends' kids!!!
For the most part, I don't have a life. I'm a work alcoholic. I usually start work around 01:00 am and get out of here between 10:00 and 13:00, depending upon whether my Boss is here or not. If she is, I stay late so that I can be here if she needs me. If she isn't, I get to leave early. I love the early hours. It's a lot easier to concentrate when no one else is around. But that means that I hit the hay REALLY early!!!
I am "into" genealogy. I took off a month and went to Europe in 2006. Scotland (where my CAMPBELL Line's Clan Chief resides), southern England, Normandy, Holland (met a LINGG Cousin), Germany (where we lived when I was K-2), and Switzerland (met more LINGG Cousins.) Traveled by myself. Definitely learned how to NOT tour Europe!!!
Every few months, I fly up to Eastern Washington (Palouse County ¿ near Pullman) where two of my Great Great Grandparents and 4 of my Great Grandparents Homesteaded. I stay with a friend up there for 3 - 54 days and do research in the State and County Archives.
My LINGG heritage is important to me because they were my last ancestors to immigrate. They arrived here in 1816, BEFORE the Civil War. And my CAMPBELL heritage is important to me. Not sure why. But I go to the Portland Highland Games every year. The Music and the Athletics are awesome!!!
In case you've gotten this far, and in case you can't remember, I'm an Army Brat. And I'm proud of it!!! I have a Nephew (my half-sister, Toni Kay's son) who's Career Air Force and I have a Grand Nephew who's in the Navy. Probably not Career. I also "adopted" a Soldier (through AdoptAPlatoon.com) who was serving in Iraq. She came back Stateside last week, returning to Hawai'i. But we became good friends so I'm keeping her. Her Unit is going to be re-deployed in a year or so. To Afghanistan this time. She's also Career.
When going through the Q&A, I was disappointed that my mostest favoritest (poor grammar is intentional!) musics weren't there ¿ Marches and Scottish Pipes & Drums. Hey, what do ya expect from an Army Brat descended from a CAMPBELL???!
