More about Bryan:"I am a union Cinematographer and Photographer specializing in Digital Acquisition and workflow. Biography I’ve been involved in artistic endeavors my entire life – always seeking to express them with a clear reasoning and a scientific style method. My mother is an artist and my father a psychiatrist. In high school I became especially committed to photography, shooting every day and developing my own images. As a student at Webster University, I continued to develop my talents in the film department, beginning my work on 16 and 35mm motion pictures. Studying sound engineering with Bill Porter (recorder of 50 #1 hits for Elvis) gave me a keen understanding of balancing creativity, technical excellence, teamwork, and marketability of the final product. It was at this time that the transition from analog to digital occurred in the audio world. Moving into Cinematography, I focused on Digital Acquisition of images from its earliest stages 9 years ago. Technology Nearly a decade ago, I became one of the first 30 people certified by Sony on the f900, studying under Jeff Cree. I owned a Sony f900 HDCAM for five years, and now have a Red One camer...Expand for more
a (#461 MX) and an Epic arriving this fall. I did a workshop with Vittorio Storaro on lighting and cinematography in 2010. Although I focus on digital cinematography, I feel that some projects are best shot on film. Finding the right look of a film, I consider myself “technologically agnostic”- choosing the appropriate cameras to best fit the project. I have a command of the most current equipment in the industry, which helps producers and directors achieve their creative goals more effectively, as an early adopter of the RED1 camera and now the RED MX & Epic-X. I continue to go to lectures, conferences, and workshops to stay current and to test and use new equipment and methods. As a member of the International Cinematographers Guild as a Director of Photography, I am always kept current of the state of the industry. Approach I select projects based on what captivates and inspires me to create a compelling visual story. In collaboration with the Director, I decide on a look and a methodology for the project. I choose the most apt medium -digital or film- to illuminate the soul of the visual story. In my 16 years in the fields of photography and cinematography, I have pursued those opportunities that most allow me to develop myself as an artist. With a strong background in analog organic film, I have a rare balance of skills, 8 years in the tried and true methodologies of Film (working on 8 feature films and many shorter forms) and 8 years of Digital Acquisition. I am able to bring a lot of this balance of knowledge and experience into production value with the best aspects of digital while keeping the refined quality of a Analog workflow. As a Director of Photography, I have been involved in diverse projects throughout Europe and America. While primarily dedicated to feature film production, as a producer I put packages together and develop scripts for Broadcast and Theatrical distribution. As a still photographer, my work is featured with the online stock photography company Digital Light Source.".
