Bryan's Story
I completed my undergraduate at Ohio State in 1981, and my MA and PhD from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (1985, 1990 respectively). All degrees were in psychology/clinical psychology. I interned at the University of Florida in 1988-89, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Univeristy of Tennessee at Memphis in 1990; these experiences focused on health and neuropsychology.
I work in Charlotte, NC as a clinical health and neuropsychologist. The majority of my patients live in some type of long-term care (nursing home, assisted living, family care residence). My area of focus is coping with chronic medical illness for patients and their care-givers, with a special interest in neurological conditions (epilepsy, dementia, stroke, brain tumor, t...Expand for more
raumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, parkinson's etc.). I am an ambassador/advocate for the Alzheimer's Association.
Personally, I live with my life-partner Joan (married in 1983 and divorced in 1998). My son, Ben, graduated from Appalachian State University magda cum laude with a degree in Anthropology, Psychology minor. He works as a research associate with a group of orthopaedic surgeons. He is 6' 1, has red hair and a red beard, and enjoys climbing (rocks, wall racing). Since 2006, my mother has suffered from serious illness and subsequent stroke. We de-constructed her house and she now resides in a local assisted-living facility.
I enjoy singing and playing guitar for my long-term care residents. "You are My Sunshine" is always a favorite.
