Cam's Story

Cam's schools include Hammarskjold High School Thunder Bay Jan 1974 - June 1977, Kennedy High Mississauga Sept 1973 - Dec 1973, Queen Elizabeth Senior Secondary Grd 8 Mississauga 1972-1973, Lakeview Junior Secondary grd 7 Mississauga 1971-1972, Floradale Public Elementary Kindergarden-grd 6 (Cooksville) Mississauga 1965-1971. Area around Floradale School and homes at corner bend of Dunbar st/Argyle Rd was awesome them there days. :-) Creek flowed down west side of Argyle Rd where backyards met it. Huge block sized grass field behind that. Small block wide forest beyond that. Gargantuan field beyond that size of 4 big blocks. Then 2-3 streets of homes with gravel walk path for their kids to walk between that big field on their left and apple orchards on their right, meeting Floradale school at end of path, about in line with Argyle St which was west a block across forest and creek. South of Dunbar behind backyards was small block size field, the creek was just beyond this field, then small forest, paths thru it, then Floradale School. There were walk paths from Argyle- Dunbar corner across wee 9' bridge to path that went to Floradale. Other path from half way down Dunbar, beside friends house, Carol, Jim and Paul Bromby, cut thru vacant lot beside their house, thru field, across 2-3 foot creek, thru forest and field, to Floradale. Inside corner of Dunbar-Argyle had 3 or 4 lot size field with cement well that had city water main connection for watering skating rink in winter. Neighbors took turns doing this. Including my Dad. It was just like in Charlie Brown's Christmas. :-) We had so much to explore and play in then. We were very blessed. Too bad its all built over now. Their was 60' square Marsh pond behind Argyle side creek up close to 2 white apt bldngs still there. Saw lots of poly wogs, frogs, toads, red wing black birds, little awesome blue damsel flies, dragon flies, etc. Lots of trees around houses plus forests out back meant lots of squirrels, chipmonks, rabbits, skunks, fox, mice, birds, crows, ravens, hawks, etc. Got to know lots of kids other then Brombies on Dunbar when those two white 6 flr apt bldngs opened around age 8 in 1968. Many of them walked down Argyle using corner path beside my house or Dunbar path. So especially going home from school it was possible to see, catch up to, walk with some of them. Teasing, kidding, tossing soft snowballs ofcourse lol :-) You couldn't have a much better neighborhood setup. We had the family and relatives of Buck and Lenore Francesheenees to be thankful for as Dad linked up with them for construction contracting work he did. They rented us their first small house at corner of Dunbar, 210 Dunbar, when they moved into new house around corner beside us at 2512 Argyle. Dad contracted building their 3rd house. We then got their second house. They were of a big family. Owned 2 big old garages in that corner. one was where the stationed laege road plow that had to be pulled by tractor or horses. It just sat beside garage rusting in my child yrs. Fun to play on and pretend ship or sub or ricket. Bunch of wheels on it to turn that turned as weren't hooked up anymore. Inside one double garage they had workshop for vehicle repairs, snowmobiles, etc. The other older barn and garage beside that had tons of old interesting stuff collecting dust. Two old trucks. Empty chicken cages. Stables for past maybe goats and milk cow and horses. One business of theirs was making bricks and cement at huge deep pit and field area that was across road (Hurontario St i think) at top of Argyle st, a few blocks west of Argyle off west side of Hurontario St up on higher elevation. Ofcourse as kids we snuck up there to explore the pit and bldngs where they made that stuff. Though it was awesome. :-) Down the hill to south from there was Huron Park for Soccer field...Expand for more
s, Baseball, rink for our Cooksville kids hockey team league practice and games. Swimming pool for swimming lessons. CPR for drowning victims. Mouth to mouth was like ewe lol :-) Later they stopped that and just demonstrated, but I had to do it. :-s lol Had 4 cousins going to Floradale. They were just few blocks further south of school in most awesome forest neighborhood. Their blocks were fully covered with tree canopy. Their block was around contained vacant thick forest area too. They had lots of fun time in there buidling forts, playing guns and robbers, snow tag, etc. I could go on and on. lol. Maybe more later. Lots of names and faces remembered. I still got it lol. Memory. 55 now. Names like the Brombies, Dave Mckinnon (apts), Jimmy Ried (far west homes beyond orchards), Sharon and Shelly Kirk twins in same grade class (apts), Cathy Waxel (apts), Janet (apts), Anne (apts), Floradale days. Grd 7 school bused to Lakeview. Super nice lady driver. Got to take turns sitting with mentioned apt girls. Got teased ofcourse. Cam and *** in a tree, k,i,s,s,i,n,g. lol we didn't. Quite the feeling when holding hands lol at that age lol :-) Donny grd 7, was on my bus too, biggish. picked on other biggers that picked on me. Became school yard buds lol. Suzzy grd 8, Danny Thomas end grd 8, summer riding everywhere on our Honda ct90 trail bikes. What a blast that was !! Felt like this must be what heaven is like lol. :-) Start of grd 9 at Kennedy, we met less and less. Then off to Thunder Bay during Christmas break. I'll update the photos so some of you younger yr people might recognize if not remember the name ;-) Edit update : Forgot about this lol. To continue, Hamm High was great. Chemistry lab, biology lab, physics, data processing, sociology, music-bass clarinet, band for yr or 2, very funny nive music teacher Mr Ralph, physics teacher looked and sounded like Mr Spock, carpentry shop, woodworking shop, auto shop, metal working shop, electronics shop. So many. Had great times with many there, mostly weekends and fri-sat nights, where ever we could get together. Chucky cheese Smith, Mike vulcan Crowe, Steve rocky Morgan, Don bitty Bitenhaus, were my usual do stuff with group. Also Val barbie Spittlehouse, Cathy **, Ben, Doug, oh so many when there was well advertised during week this place or that this weekend lol. Very lucky to have got to know them. I had no clue how to. Cousin Kevin Hare said watch in smoking area during breaks. See who jokes around a lot but not nastily, more the nice humor teasing thing. Then go up say hi I'm Cam would you like to share this exotic smoke I found, over there behind trees. lol it worked and we started getting together often. Tx all and Kev. If not for that, my shyness likely would of had me go thru high with few if any friends. ;-) :-) 2 things the school should have addressed in classes not just briefly, but many times thru the yrs, was 1 = importance of saving, having budget, etc. 2 = the likely bad dependence and thinking ya always need booze or drugs to have enjoyable social time. a little maybe. 3 = sex is bad idea. Besides diseases, a pregnancy can ruin your possibilities for many yrs. Don't consider permanet relationship until done with schooling and set up with job ya like. Then after spending about 2 yrs with someone, ya both may have good idea of compatibility. If both agree kids are wanted and affordable, then yes. ;-) Too much use and reliance those days having beers and tokes for socials, left some struggling for yrs later, thinking they had to keep doing that to be fun to be with and to feel they enjoying themselves. But it was a lot of fun lol. ;-) :-) Took many yrs to shake some habits and habitually thinking etc. ;-) That's enough for now. ;-) I'll update maybe more later. Feel free to say hi, remember this or that, ask questions, etc. :-)
