Cameron's Story

Life Life has been a blast. My early years are best described as underachieving, unfocused and naïve. :-) Yet, I would not change a single day in my life as each day has laid the foundation for where I am at today. Where am I? Well~far from where I want to be as I am constantly driving myself with aggressive goals, but here it is in a nutshell: Today - I am living in downtown Vancouver, I am a financial controller at a growing software firm, single, part-time party boy, politically-estranged, part-time family guy (8 nephews/nieces), beach volleyball player (love the beach), blah blah.. Over the past decade I came out of the closet (94'?), graduated with a B.A. from U of A (96'), moved to Vancouver (96'), lived in Europe (00'-03'), became a paper millionaire with a .dot com (00'), lost the paper millions and a little hard cash too (03'), graduated from UBC - accounting (04'), working on CMA designation (IP), with other possible future designations/degrees - CFA, CPA,MSc (finance)?. Still single. Hard to find a man. Don't get me started. Comes back to the statistics of the targeted "market segment" - how many hot, intelligent, nice gay men are not taken in this city?!? Accentuating the manhunt challenge is my hard work lifestyle - my social life usually takes a hit in place of work/study needs. So I approach my social life in waves - I go out EVERY weekend for one month, then take 4 months off. OK - so not the best approach to marketing myself. I have no problem finding sex though. Fortunately, I “suffer” from the Dorian Gray effect - I am 34 but look about 26. (Girls: Clinique or Olay?) I also benefit from living in a downtown metropolis where I walk and bike everywhere year-round, thus saving myself from the inevitable 30 y.o. suburb belly-growth issue. So at least my physical needs are satisfied and - hell - with gay men, I can pretty much get casual sex 24x7x365 if I wanted. But that is not what I want. I am a romanti...Expand for more
c at heart and want a husband. Always have - well let's just describe it as the "form" of a husband, as at one time it would have been a wife. I was politically active, actually being employed by a provincial Premier and active with multi campaigns of the politically powerful. I am not politically active at the moment due to lack of time. If I became active again, I would need to be in a position of influence - or dare my I state: what the hell is the point??!! :-) My political philosophy is rather straight forward - I am socially liberal and economically conservative. I still am quite passionate about various viewpoints, especially with human rights issues. Discrimination DISGUSTS me to no end. Basic respect and acceptance is essence of being a human being, those whom are unwilling to do so, will burn in the depths of blah. My dogma and paradigm changed from being narrow (and ignorant) to being open minded (and even more ignorant). The truly *wisest* persons in the world are the ones which recognize they are the *most* ignorant. Or shall I rephrase:"WE (collectively) all are totally ignorant". Growing up in Canada's "Texas" - Alberta - provided me with a very narrow Bush-Republican view of the world. After traveling and living in other cultures; educating myself - my beliefs quickly broadened. In fact, there were broadened while living in Alberta and being physically and emotionally challenged as a gay man. Being out for a year and half in Alberta before I moved was an eye opener - shocking. I went from being member of society’s majority to an invisible minority. Discrimination, beatings and deaths. No joke. The hate which is bred indirectly from discriminatory jokes, “tolerance but not acceptance” philosophy only reinforce the systematic discrimination which does result in violence. Google “Matthew Shepard” “Aaron Webster”. Few of the scores of victims. Google “Rev. Phelps” homophobics answer to Adolf Hitler.
