Candace's Story
Life
I was always the quiet, shy, freckle-faced kid while I was attending school. A couple of years after I graduated from college, I suddenly underwent a major change. I lost 70 lbs, got a new car and apartment in El Segundo.
I met my husband Rod at a Halloween party in 1997. My next-door-neighbor, Glenn, was a mutual friend, and he invited us both (can you smell a set-up?). Rod and I both wore the same costume - a faceless phantom. I unmasked before he did, so he just kept me guessing who this mystery man was. When he finally took the mask off, I wondered why he was hiding those beautiful, hazel eyes. We talked all evening and he took me home.
We didn't hook up again until the following March when we started dating. I met his 12-year-old daughter from a previous marriage, Cassaundra. A couple of weeks into the relationship, I fell in love with him. A month later, he told me that he was going to move to Florida for work. So, I followed my heart, and my love, to the East Coast.
A year-and-a-half after moving to the Fort Lauderdale area, I found out I was pregnant with my first child. Rod and I decided to get married, but postpone the wedding until after Adam was born in October 2000. We tied the knot in Las Vegas on August 8, 2001 and spent our honeymoon in...Expand for more
Maui, Hawaii. In 2003, we were blessed with a little girl, Kaitlyn.
My family moved across the country to be with us and to help us out with the kids in February 2004. That summer, we were hit by Hurricanes Frances and Gene. In August 2005, we were hit by Hurricane Katrina when it passed through Florida as a Category 1 on it's way to Louisiana. It knocked out our power for 3 1/2 days.
Rod got word of a new job opportunity for him in Las Vegas that he couldn't pass up in October 2005. He left to start the job, leaving me and the kids in Florida just one day before Hurricane Wilma hit. We were without water for 5 days and without power for 13 1/2. We had to fetch potable water and ice daily, wash clothes in the bathtub, take ice-cold showers and spend our nights inside for the curfew in dim candlelight with little to no news about what was going on in the world. It was an experience.
We joined Rod in Las Vegas in January 2006. I got a new job, and we bought a van. We had a surprise late life baby, Dennis, in 2012.
I've developed a love of travel & cruising, photography and scrapbooking and dedicate as much of my time to pursuing them as I can.
So if you ever wondered what happened to that quiet, shy, freckle-faced girl you went to school with? Now you know.
