Carin's Story

Life Life's been good to me so far. After FINALLY finishing school, I've got a good job that I find challenging and rewarding. Plus, I really like the people I work with, which helps a lot. Outside of work, I've gotten to do some traveling this year. In March, I went to Las Vegas with some friends from work for a bachelorette trip and, in July, I went to Norway to visit my dad's side of the family. Both trips were lots of fun (despite the travel problems!). I just got back from Austin. I went down with a friend of mine to ACL, which would have been a lot more fun if it had been about 15 degrees cooler! I still ride horses (I've got 3) but don't compete near so seriously as I did in high school. Now, it's mostly just a fun way to relax and have fun away from my rather stressful job. And, frankly, I really just enjoy seeing the horses standing out there in the pasture waiting for me when I get home from work each day. They're so easy to please - little food and they're happy! lol College After high school, I went to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO for a year and half before I realized that I preferred to live my OWN life. I still keep in touch with many of the friends I made there and have much respect for those serving in our military. I started at Oklahoma State in January 1998 and graduated with my bachelor's degree in May 2000. I worked hard but I also had a lot of fun at OSU! From there, I decided to go directly on to law school (while I still used to being a poor student!). I ended up ...Expand for more
at OU. Law school itself wasn't much fun but I did get involved in a lot of activities and made some really good friends. I finished there in May 2003 and finally entered the full time workforce with the same firm I had interned with. Workplace After I left USAFA and came "home" to Oklahoma, I took the first job I could find in Stillwater to help work my way through OSU. Unfortunately, that was at McDonald's. No, I didn't actually flip the burgers but I still came home after each shift smelling like them! Luckily though, after only a few months, I was able to find a better job on campus. I worked in the office of the dean of the College of Business for two years--answering phones and doing general clerical-type stuff. It was a relaxed atmosphere and a really great way to get to know the professors (OSU might be "big" school but you don't have to be "just a number"). The summer before I graduated, I had an internship at a bank. It was a good learning experience but it convinced me that I should continue on with school (I had been debating whether to go straight on to law school or work for a while then go back). I interned at a law firm in downtown OKC for two years while in law school and although I had other job offers other places, when all was said and done, I ended up staying put here in Oklahoma and am still working at the same firm (it's been over 4 years now--time flies!). I'm an attorney now and mostly work on the plaintiff's side of things. Litigation's exciting, often hectic but I really love it!
