Carla's Story

Hey everyone. Thought I would... well write... here it goes. At first I thought my place in the world was in Polk City, FL where I built a home right out of high school and was on my way to building up my own daycare but God had a different plan for me. He felt we needed to be back in Alabama for the time being so the year after my first son, Cody was born in '92 we had to flee to AL to have him kidney transplanted which we celebrated his 15yr transplant anniversary in Oct.'08 Yea! He is not only a miracle in his own right but the best son a mother could every wish for and YES I am bragging. Not only is he currently battling his seventh time, yes I said SEVENTH time, with brain cancer but he has many other daily medical ordeals he has to deal with... but always with a smile on his face and no one would ever know unless we told them. He participates yearly in the Special Olympics and always does well. He's currently a junior at the local high school passing with A-C grades and is taking computer classes after school on top of regular doctor appointments, speech and occupational therapy weekly. He is well known and liked by everyone. Lots of the time I'm know as "Cody's mom" even in situations you would think I would be known as Carla. He has a good heart and would bend over backwards for anyone and doesn't hesitate to tell even strangers that "God and my Mom saved my life" which always brings me to tears. Well then, Cyle, his brother come to be in '96, he makes up for the meanest his brother doesn't dish out but I can say "it could be worse". HaHa. He was recently inducted into the BETA club and is an active member with excellent grades without effort. (Comes the big head and the know it all attitude!) He recently went Christmas caroling at the local nursing homes and even sang at the last P.T.O. meeting. If anyone knows Cyle this is greatly out of character. He does seem to be growing up to be a well-rounded kid. He plays basketball just to have something to do and hang out with his friends. I think he also plays just so I will have something ELSE to do. Also Cyle doesn't ever want to miss school for nothing. He recently was told the last three days before Christmas break that roll would not be taken if he wanted to stay home but he wanted to go and did just that. I have had to reschedule check-ups and teeth cleanings because he refuses to miss school. And GET THIS...He has even decided that his tonsillectomy will be New Year Eve day because that was the only day the doc could schedule it to where he wouldn't miss school. Go Figure!!! Then.... much later and to my surprise Crystal my beau...Expand for more
ty princess daughter was born in '03 after I was told I could not have any more children. LIARS! That's ok though, I wouldn't have it any other way. She is by "Baby Girl". She is so funny she use to introduce herself as "Crystal Princess Girl" and I feel she still thinks of herself as such. Well, she is constantly told that she is beautiful. She has long flowing blonde hair and deep blue eyes that would melt the meanest of hearts. Just before turning five she started beauty pageants and she loves every minute of it. She's won several awards including most beautiful and prettiest hair but the one she and I are most proud of is the crown she EARNED. Instead of Trick or Treating for Halloween she took up money donations for a baby with a rare form of dwarfism and earned second place with only two days to get the money up. She also goes to preschool and is already at a first grade learning level. Her teachers are constantly bragging on her abilities. I am a proud mama. But don't fool yourself; she's like a beauty princess by day and a hellion by night. She can hold her on against all the boys in her class, her 12yr old brother, and probably lots of his friends too, NO JOKE'N! As far as I'm concerned that's ok too. But...I am constantly trying to get her to leave the scratches and bruises off her face for the pageants. That¿s when cover-up make-up comes in handy. Well, that¿s pretty much the biggest chunks of my life. Never thought that having kids would consume so much of me but they have and I guess that¿s ok. I am a member of the American Legion (thanks to my mom and what she wanted for her birthday). I try my best to do what I can there. I did go to college and graduated with high honors. I was in Phi Theta Kappa, Phi Beta Lambda, and the National Honors Society among others. I took some nursing classes and I do have two degrees, one in Business Management and the other in Marketing Management. I've learned a lot about the medical field just taking care of Cody and the work I've done with the disabled. I have done some work for local companies and taxes for individuals but nothing major. My major accomplishment has been keeping my son alive and my children as happy as possible. Keeping them happy is sometimes tricky and I don't know that I will ever have that down completely. I'm lucky in the sense that I have been able to be here for my kids because I believe it has been one of the toughest jobs (careers) I could have ever had and it is far from over. Well, I wish everyone reading this well and hope your life is good. COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS IT COULD ALWAYS BE WORSE! To Be Continued......
