Carleen's Story
Life as of March 2014
It's hard to condense more than 40 years into 2000 characters but I'll try. Married first to a techie, 2 sons (both Ga Tech engineers, too) by that marriage. Jimmy, the oldest, is married to Kristhia, two children: Kimberly, 8 and Bryan, 5. Jon is married to Emily, two boys, Jake, 12 and Sam, 8.
A little further history: Divorced in 1989, I remarried in 1991, this time to a GA DAWG and professional Boy Scout, Jack Crawford! I returned to school twice, coming out with (finally) my journalism degree and a BSBA/MOD.
Lived in Kinston, NC 6 1/2 years (better know as "Hurricane Alley"....8 hurricanes in the time we lived there) and survived Hurricanes Fran and Floyd (and the floods although 3 ft of water in basement) Left a great job that I loved in administration for Lenoir County Schools (Community Schools-Public Information Coordinator)and a wonderful historic home that we still own (built in 1904, 5500 sq ft) in March of 2001 to follow the love of my life to Texas.
We lived in Port Neches, Tx near Beaumont for 6 years and enjoyed it very much - along with our pool. We survived Hurricane Rita in 2005 and were glad to get back home after being evacuees for ...Expand for more
more than three weeks -and although our property suffered, we were ok. While in Texas, I had another great job - working for Hearst Corporation as an account executive in advertising/marketing. But somehow, we haven't stayed put too long! So...
In late 2006 we had an opportunity to return to NC, this time to Hickory. Jack started his new position (still with BSA) in late fall, and I joined him in March of 2007. We purchased another historic (1907) home and and renovated it, getting the Hickory Landmark's Historic Preservation Award in 2008. I am not sure, but think we have landed!
I served as Public Information Officer (PIO) for Catawba County Schools( July 2007-June 2011) and then took a year off before moving into an entirely new field in public health and am now working as tobacco-free living coordinator for a 10-county region.
Life is still good, and God has truly blessed us! I look forward to retirement and a time when I can spend more time with family. In the meantime I still have a passion for cooking and entertaining and do so as often as possible!
