Carol's Story
In High School it was all vocal...in every choir.
Only one year at Amundsen...1960
Ran an entertainment company for 10 years, after retiring from General Motors.
Married...had 1 son. He had 1 daughter.
My son, retired from the Air Force as a Lt. Col. Did his last 6 years at the Air Force Academy,
Deputy Department Head of Foreign Languages. Retired when his name was 2nd from the
top, would be headed back for a 3rd tour of duty in the Iraq War. His replacement was killed
in Kabul, several months later.
My Granddaughter is an Aerospace Engineer. She is a problem solver for all U.S. and free world companies in Aerospace. The company she is employed by is funded by the US Gov't. She was hired 6 months before graduating from her Masters Program, with the
understanding, she would complete it. Degree in hand, she walked into a 6 figure job.
If any of you have grandchildren interested in Aerospace. Read this...otherwise skip it:
If you don't like Math and Physics...don't think about Aerospace. You'll do enough math
to equal a mathematician. Your job prospects are greater with a Masters Degree. If you stay at the same university...you can get it down in 5 hard years.
The secret to success is 4.0 GPA. NASA Funded Projects and Internships...Expand for more
, Chances are their 1st couple might be in Mechanical Engineering, You don't get into Aerospace till your Jr. Year, but that should not be a deterrent. Six figure salaries, walking out of the University...go to those with lots of experience in Internships. You don't start looking the month before
summer vacation, you look 6 month ahead.
The drop out rate in Aerospace is high, because you have to know something about
every discipline in engineering and materials. A lot of students want the glamor and prestige, but not the work. You have to treat your education...like a JOB! College won't be fun! You'll do 10 times the work of others. No parties! No sports. Nothing that eats away your time. Relationships are out! Shelve them for the next 5 years. An Aerospace degree can get you many jobs, It proves you aren't afraid of hard work. Employers love them.
You want it easy in college...take Art History...and pray you can find a job!
Become a plumber, or an electrician. They are rarely out of work.
The colleges are loaded with Computer Science Students, skip that one.
Good luck to you and yours. Life is going to get a whole lot worse, before it gets better!
The good ole days, we were lucky enough to have experienced, will not be returning.
