Carol S Barner's Story
Carol is from Whitehouse, Ohio. Carol is married to Randall King of Perrysburg, Ohio. Carol and Randall have two amazing daughters, Lauren Elizabeth and Lindsay Catherine. They also have an amazing grandson, Larson Kristoff!
They enjoy their fur babies as well, a half bobcat-half domestic cat Peter, a beautiful black long hair cat Lola, and their new white long hair kitten Angel. And Ralph, Lindsay's Irish wolfhound, is Nana's baby as well!
Carol's schools include Robert S. Rogers High School. Carol earned her BBA (Management, Marketing) and MBA (Finance) at the University of Toledo, and her MEd at Bowling Green State University and Ashland College. She has continued to pursue her interests in economics and educational administration at various institutions, including Indiana University, the University of Illinois, Northern Illinois, Colorado State University, and Bowling Green State University.
Carol worked in banking at National City Bank (now PNC), managing the operations division. After almost 20 years in banking, she received a call that changed the direction of her career and life. Carol was asked to come to a rural high school to teach the business and computer courses. Initially leary, she took a leave of absence from the bank and went to the school to give it a try. It was a life-changing move as it became a mission to fulfill. The students have so many needs that are unanswered by the typical classroom, textbooks, lectures and testing. Carol spent the next 15 years "coaching" high school students with real world learning, tossing the obsolete textbooks, using community projects to apply learning, and empowering all students for success by helping them find their own gifts and talents.
One of Carol's favorite quotes is:
"Do not condemn the judgment of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong." ~Dandemis
"Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing." ~Abraham Lincoln
"The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires." ~William A. Ward"
"Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art.... It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival." ~C.S. Lewis.
