Carol's Story
I graduated with the class of 1975, so it may have seemed like I vanished. I knew what I wanted to do so an extra year of high school taking classes that were not necessary didn't appeal to me so I left early. I then spent 4 yrs at DVC taking pre-req's then applied to Merritt School of Nursing. Prior to that I was driving a school bus for the Moraga school district. It was a big bus, held 79 kids fully loaded, and it was a 10 speed. I could really go thru the gears. I was good! I also drove the Tahoe camp trips 2 yes in a row. We left on Monday and came home on Friday. It was really fun! And I had great kids!! We did have a lot of fun on field trips too. When I got into Merritt I spent the next 3 yrs in classes, clinical, and whatever else came my way. I took my boards after my junior year, passed, then started my last year of nursing school, but I met someone and I didn't finish my last 5 classes for my BSN. Not a crisis. I got married in July of 1989 and had son #1in Dec of 1989. After a huge earthquake in LA, where we were living I told my husband I was heading to Washington state where my parents had moved for retirement, they were born and raised there so it was a no-brainer, plus I wanted my kid(s) to know their grandparents. gan army medical center until I was able to obtain my Wash license. I was there for the return of the troops from Desert Storm and developed a newfound respect for service men and women. They were great! I was a little bit pregnant with #2 and ended up having son #2 a month early. He had a blood sugar issue at birth, his blood sugar was 27 and would not go up even with IV dextrose. So, he went to the NICU, and I got my 1st gray hair. He came home on his original due date and is fine. I did pre-op/post-op at Madigan, then I went to the private sector where I did med/surg at Good Samaritan Hospital for the next 13 yrs. In 1997 I had the "oops" child. That was son #3 and I had that problem permanently cured. I have 3 wonderful boys. I have had horses all along the way, and in January of 2022 I was lucky enough to find Menza Khan, aka "George", he is a purebred Akhal-teke. Google the breed, not many people know about these rare horses. We raised Rottweilers for 20 yrs, they are awesome dogs. At the farm we had chickens, ducks, emu's, cats/kittens, percheron draft horses, and lots of other critters. It's been a real journey! Lots of stuff in between, but for now I need to get to the barn before there's a riot. And my dachshund, Teyla wants to go out too.
