Carol's Story
Life
I joined the U.S. Air Force after high school, serving as a military newspaper editor and then military historian. After active duty tour, I joined the Montana Air National Guard, serving first as newspaper editor, then historian and then NCOIC for intelligence operations (last 15 years of service). Now retired Master Sergeant. In civilian life I've worked as a newspaper editor and then a museum director. Throughout all this I've continued my fine art, which I now pursue full-time. In addition to painting, I create murals on commission; Most recent commission was 50 ft mural for Whitman College, Washington. I'm also involved in archeaological PIT projects (locations of some past projects include: The Uinta Wilderness, northern UT; Commanche Grasslands,CO; OTO Ranch, MT; Strawberry Mountains, OR; Kiabab Plateau, northern AZ.) During each academic year I complete several two-week artist residency programs for various public schools. The photo I've posted was taken on one of the PIT projects in September 2001 (I was surveying...Expand for more
for noxious weeds on a game range.)
School
School---I see there is a tab marked "College" so I suppose this space is meant for high school. Hmmm. Not much to say. I enjoyed drawing the cartoons for the yearbook. Recall having some wonderful teachers and a small but close circle of friends. The best part about high school was knowing that at the end of four years I could go and make my own life.
Workplace
Wow! Ten or more jobs! Yes, and they range from what I did in the USAF to field work for an entomologist to newspaper editor to museum director (the latter also gave me opportunities to work in television and radio spots.) And I shouldn't leave out factory work (in good 'ol New Jersey.) Currently I'm a college art department Art Technician (part-time.) Why such a variety? Because my real job is a free-lance artist. All the other stuff is a diversion!
Military
I thoroughly enjoyed my military service. The work was interesting, the people were great. It was a worthwhile experience that increased my self-confidence.
