Carole's Story
Life
I've lived in Maryland, Virginia, California, and now Massachusetts.
I stumbled into computers right out of high school and it has been paying my way ever since. Funny, but it still is fun after all these years. Have reconnected with Harriet, Cathy, Chris, and Bob Kleinschmidt. Anyone know anything about Mike Tice?
Now we've lost Harriet to Cancer and I'm nearly one year post breast cancer diagnosis. Chemo was...interesting and for the first time in my life I have curly hair!
Finally got my college in - and now play the bagpipes. Check out my band The Highland Light Scottish Pipeband of Cape Cod.
Our home is 10 minutes from the Sagamore Bridge in Plymouth, MA
School
High School was such a mess - by the time I got around to college classes (17 yrs later) all I could remember was how poorly I did.
Music Man remains a highlight of my high school years as does lighting the swim shows and other plays and performances.
College
Even though I was a poor excuse for a student in high school, I was a good student in my 30s and when I finally got my BA I had a 3.96 GPA - rah! My Master's took no time at all and I gave myself, my partner, and my family the gift of having an education. Neat gift.
I had a 4.0 in CS and 3.96 in Math undergrad, 4.0 in CS and finance in MS. Not bad for barely getting out of AAHS alive.
Workplace
Navy gave my computers which I turned into gold. Paid for a lot of houses, travel, and "things". Wh...Expand for more
en a bank bought the company I was working for, my passion for all things computer was slowly snuffed out. I got a chance to work for a small business selling Celtic music, bagpipes and the like and took piping lessons from the owner. Five years later I am teaching pipe lessons, playing in a band and competing. I run my little business from home, edit books that my partner turns out, work on getting an agent for her and compete in piping.
I've been a bartender for 4 years now at the Radisson Hotel on Water Street in Plymouth - look for me behind the bar if you come visit our area.
Military
Boot camp at Bainbridge, Maryland (can't find it on the map now,) stationed in Washington, DC at NAVCOSSACT (can't find a listing for that either,) Quarters K in Arlington (now gone,) and Naval Base, Norfolk (whew! that is still there.)
If I didn't have my DD214 I'd think I'd only imagined my service years. Did have a good time even though being in the military was not popular then. Really hated seeing the anti-war demonstrations as they were focused on we who were serving not on those who sent us. Glad it has changed now. I know too many of the names on the Vietnam War Memorial who would have been devastated with the treatment of the returning servicemen and women.
I did get my computer and retail training in the Navy and for that alone I would serve again but I still love the US of A and for all we do wrong, we get a lot of things right.
