Carole's Story
Life
I'm a former Philadelphian who used to live near 11th & Tioga who loves soft pretzels, philly cheese steaks and "Charlie's Pizza".I'm a former member of "Bandstand" and frequented St.Joe's dances.
I graduated from Olney High School in 1960. Moved to Pleasantville, NJ in 1968 where I met my second husband, Ted. I later worked for Prudential Insurance Co. Linwood, NJ for several years. Today I'm married to Ted Dutton, have 2 children, 4 grandkids, and we live in St.Augustine.
School
The teacher who inspired mr most would have to be Caroline Hill at
Wright school 11th & Venango. I'm looking for pals Ellyn Manosis,
Helen Thomas, Sally Walsh, Anna Roy from Cooke Jr. High and Olney
High. Biggest Crush at Cooke would have to be Bobby Goldstick who
didn't even know I was alive. Same was true of Joe Siddons from
Olney High who I rode the R bus with everyday. If I could change
things I think I would have participated more in school functions
and made more friends. But I was painfully shy as a teenager and
didn't really blossum until the last 6 months of high school.
At that time I totally redid myself and people I had sat next to
in class didn't realize I was the same person! Many days after
school was over I made the mega trek down to American Bandstand
where I would usually arrive late. The security guard knew me
and always let me into the studio. Once when I was interviewed by Dick Clark I could barely ...Expand for more
give him my name I was so intimintated
by the microphone. I met most of the big recording stars of that
era. I especially liked Frankie Avalon who was always very friendly
and Annette Funicello. I tried to talk my friends
into going down with me but it was too long a journey for them.
I'm glad now that I made the effort to become part of a piece of
americana.
Workplace
My first job was with Ritter Finance Co. at Frankfort and Margaret
Sts. (HELLO BERNIE!You should see my neck today!) Later I worked at Household Finance in Camden. From 62-64.( HELLO MR GROGAN!!) I
worked at Ironees Co. where I was a dictaphone typist. ALICE,
WHERE ARE YOU??? After I
married in 64 my husband was in the service so we moved around
frequently. We lived in Tampa, Fl. and Goldsboro, N. C. When
he went to Vietnam I worked in the family business at 11th &
Rising Sun Ave at a 7/11 type store.
When we moved to New Jersey in 1968 I worked part time at Spencer
Gifts, Atlantic City,NJ and after my divorce at the library in Pleasantville, NJ and finally at
Prudential Insurance Co in Linwood, NJ where I stayed until becoming
disabled in 1990.
Today I lead a quiet life in
St Augustine, Fl where I have lived for 16 years. I enjoy the
beach as you can drive on it and
that makes it great for the disabled and fishing. My husband
and I have been married for
29 years and we have 2 children
and 4 grandchildren whom we visit
whenever we can.
