Carole Mitchell's Story
Dear Classmates,
My favorite teacher at ORHS was Mr. Grossman. Does anyone know if he's still around? He was SO funny and a GREAT art teacher. He taught us perspective, balance, etc., and, he was very funny! Because I loved art so much, I decided to become an art teacher. Because every person is unique, drawing and painting people was my forte and my favorite kind of art work.
My other favorite class at ORHS was library. My love of reading, for information, as well as pleasure, made working in the school library fun for me. Our two librarians were SO nice and helpful that I decided that I, also, wanted to become a school librarian.
I LOVE to read science fiction, and I love anything to do with outer space -- movies, star gazing, etc. I hope to live long enough to find out that there are other solar systems with "life," any kind of life, on them!
I met my first husband, Patrick H. Frost, an art and biology major, at the University of North Alabama. It was there that I received a B. S. in Elementary Education. Then, a few years later, I went back to UT to receive my library certification.
Pat was an absolutely WONDERFUL, KIND, and LOVING person, who died VERY SUDDENLY from a massive cerebral hemorrhage while we, our very YOUNG daughters, and his family, were all at the beach in New Jersey! It was so devastating for my daughters and me that I decided to move from Memphis back to Oak Ridge to be near my parents.
For many years, I was the art teacher and the librarian here in Oak Ridge at St. Mary's School. I retired, however, from being both the art teacher and the librarian many years ago, and became jus...Expand for more
t a school librarian in Knox County. A few years ago, I decided to retire.
I spend as much of my spare time babysitting with my grandchildren as my daughters will let me. I LOVE being with them! They are SO MUCH FUN! They and their families are my life!
The men in my family built my two little granddaughters a very well built, REAL, adult-sized playhouse (You could live in it!) in their huge backyard. It even has a covered porch for their rocking chairs. The four-year-old requested that the guys paint the outside walls lavender and the paint inside walls pink -- her two favorite colors! It really is an AWESOME playhouse!
My three grandsons, of course, are computer game CRAZY! It's almost ALL they care about doing! Apparently, though, all their friends are just like them! Needless to say, I guess you've probably gathered that my CHILDREN and my GRANDCHILDREN are my most prized possessions!
My home, now, is also home to two stray animals. There's my very sweet and loving cat, Blue, whose name was shortened from Bluebell to Blue after I found out from the vet that "she" was really a "he"! Actually, it was HE that adopted ME by meowing on our porch until I let him into the house. He came in three different times before he decided that he wanted to stay forever, and there's our large, stray dog, Murphy, that was rescued from a very busy highway! He was already trained and is a great dog.
Since, to my dismay and beyond my control, I missed our fiftieth reunion; I would LOVE to get together with some of you at a restaurant, every now and then, to reminisce about the "Good old days"!
