Carolyn's Story
New Stuff
I was introduced to the virtual world Second Life (SL) by NASA (who I've done some curriculum design for). I became involved in the educational community and teaching grad classes in SL. I am on sabbatical for a year to develop more biology-oriented educational content, work with NASA and NPR's Science Friday, and anything else worthwhile I can find to do. Visit me on the island of Biome. My avatar is Clowey Greenwood.
Life
I grew up an ÂAir Force Brat and lived in Louisiana, Texas, Colorado, Florida, Germany, North Dakota and Oklahoma. My parents were originally from Oklahoma and that is where I attended high school so I guess that would be ÂhomeÂ. I attended 2 1/2 years of college then married and had 5 children, Chris, Lisa, Andrew, Curt and Jennifer. We lived in Norman and Nicoma Park OK and later in San Bernardino and Camarillo CA, finally ending up back in Oklahoma City.
I later became a science teacher, teaching at Bridge Creek Middle School (Deason) and Putnam City High School (Dawson). I moved to Colorado in 1994 where I obtained a Ph.D in biological education, then to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where I took a position at Northern Michigan University (you know how Michigan looks like a mitten? Well, IÂm not there  look for that other piece of Michigan stuck to Wisconsin). I am a science educator - I teach science methods, graduate programs for science teachers and life science for elementary teachers. I also research science process skills and misconceptions in science.
I am married to a wonderful man, Kevin, who is originally from St. Paul, MN. We met on an LDS online pen-pal service. Yep  it was an internet thing. We became very good friends, sharing things friends share, for several months before we ever saw each other.

a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) for almost 30 years now and am very involved, facilitating a Bible study group on campus and teaching the 18 months - 3 year old kids on Sunday.
The kids are grown, 4 are married, and we have 4 grandchildren.
School
I attended a lot of schools since my dad was in the Air Force. I was a Kindergarten drop-out in Wichita Falls, TX and re-enrolled in Denver Colorado (Smith Elementary). In 3rd grade I moved to Ellis Elementary, also in Denver. I attended some school in Florida for one semester of 6th grade then moved to Hahn AFB, Germany for 7th and half of 8th. The next year was spent in Minot, ND then I moved to Oklahoma City where I attended Putnam City Central Jr. H. for one semester and PC West for all high school. I attended OCU from 1971-1974 and again 1987-1989 when I finally graduated with a BS in Biology. I became a science teacher at Bridge Creek Middle School (last name Deason) and later at Putnam City High School (last name Deason then Dawson). I worked on my M.Ed. in gifted ed, again at OCU, finishing it in 1994, then moved to Greeley, CO where I obtained my Ph.D. in biological education in 1999 from the University of Northern Colorado. I now teach at Northern Michigan University.
