Carolyn's Story

Life I'm a long way from London now. Loving life in Australia with my husband (an american)with 5 kids (hubby has 2, I have 3). We have 7 gorgeous grandchildren with the latest being our sixth granddaughter only 5 days ago. I love being a Nanna and find it wonderful being young enough to keep up with them and still having a life after my kids. My husband and I live alone and I quite enjoy that. I have only been back to London twice in the past 30yrs with the last visit being only 3yrs ago. It was great to visit old haunts and catch up with friends. After leaving London to live in New Zealand I went to school at an all girls school where we had to wear a strict school uniform. Although I hated uniforms back then I must say that I certainly appreciate them as a parent. I left New Zealand and moved to Australia in the early 80's. Was the best move of my life. Australia is an amazing country and if you want snow, you have to go to it, it doesn't come to you. I love that. I have lived in Adelaide but live 5hrs away from there now. I am 5hrs from Melbourne too so I have the best of both worlds. I love the shopping in Melbourne. Adelaide is a lovely city and not as big or as busy as Melbourne. One of my fav places in Australia is Sydney harbour. I have travelled to the States, New Zealand, Canada and Vanuatu and around Australia in the past 30yrs. I love to travel when I can. I would love to travel around Australia but the place I want to live is Queensland. I just love the sun. My parents live here in Mt Gambier. My brother lives in Adelaide and my sister is in the States with her husband and family. We keep in touch via the net. I went to Byron Northview Primary School before going to Saunders. While I was in London last I called my favourite teacher, Gordon Sackville, to catch up with him. It was fun to do that. I had also attended Cartier for a couple of years prior to that. So many memories of London and all very fond ones. It would be great to visit at least once every two years but will have to find a rich uncle (dead one that is) who's left me a fortune in his will. Shame I don't...Expand for more
have any uncles left:) I know I couldn't live in Canada again. I think i'm allergic to snow. :) I do love to visit though. So many good memories there. I have been extremely lucky in my life to have lived in 3 different countries and have loved each one for different reasons. If anyone asks me where I come from in the States I am always quick to correct them that I am Canadian born. I did, however, commit the ultimate sin of any Canadian by marrying an American. There are still a few good ones out there and I was lucky enough to find one of them. My baby girl got married last weekend (17th Nov). She looked like an angel. The weather was perfect and it all went smoothly except for the flowergirl (my granddaughter) who ended up sick at the reception. Poor kid. It was all good other than that. We got back from a trip to the States for our sons graduation in May. Spent some time with the boys in Ohio which was great. Flew to Arizona to see my sister. Got in the car and took a road trip through Utah and then to Idaho to take my neice to college. The variation in the landscape between AZ and Utah was amazing. I would have appreciated a bit more summer weather in Utah. Emily called us from Idaho a few days later to say it was snowing. She was not impressed. I am missing being over there and am sad I didn't get a chance to get to Canada on this occassion. I am still trying to decide what I want to be when I grow up. LOL Not liking what I am doing now so need a new direction. Thinking of going back to school but not sure what I would like to do yet. Now that we don't have any kids at home I'm a bit lost as to what to do. Maybe we will just move to Hawaii and work at one of the resorts. I love the sun and I love to work with people. We finally have another grandson. Born on the 20th of June 2009. This is my fathers birthday. We also have another baby due in the family in January. This is going to be a very busy family. I've finally decided what I want to do when I grow up. I am now managing a jewellery story and just trying to get used to be "the boss". It's all good and I am enjoying the challenge.
