Carolyn's Story
Well things were going quite well for me until Wednesday before Thanksgiving of 2005. That was the day I was involved in a car accident. I was waiting to turn into the parking lot of the flower shop by work when an uninsured motorist hit my from behind. I was lucky ??? because the truck that pulled into the parking lot was a fire fighter for Van Buren TWP. He saw the truck hit and push me. He saw me get out of my car and talk to the man. The fire fighter called the police and called for a ambulance for me. The man who hit me was driving a truck that his mother bought for him. She insured and titled it in his fathers name, so he did not only have a drives license--he wasn't insured. He also I found out by the police officer that arrived at the accident after the driver left the scene, had 3 warrents out for his arrest for driving without a license. She told me that if she would have arrived before he took off she would have hand-cuffed him and put him in the back of her car. Well Thanksgiving evening my youngest sister called me and said "I just heard what happened to you, did you get an CT scan to make sure that you don't have a blood clod"? I told her that I did not hit anyone but I was hit from behind so I didn't think that it was necessary. She told me that I had better get to the hospital and get one or she was coming over to my house and drag me by my hair to get one. So after I went and rented...Expand for more
a car my husband drove me to Henry Ford in Wyandotte. It was there after the CT scan that a doctor told me I had a brain tumor, well in medical terms that I didn't understand. He told us that an ambulance was on its way to take me to Henry Ford in Detroit. Well that Sunday I had my surgery. One thing I did find out after my surgery was I did not have cancer and I am somewhat back to normal (whatever that might be). My good buddy, Dottie Zoladz Vega was by my side. She and her husband Rudy even took me to my follow up appointments and homemade chicken soup. The only problems that I have are I can only taste potato chips and mustard. I have lost my sense of taste and smell. The doctor said it may never come back. I have lost my quick sense of humor and quick recall. I hope that it will come back some day. If not that is OK because I am alive and still waiting to be reimbursted for my out of pocket expences. The fool hit me doing 45 miles an hour. He was sitting in the trunk of my car. He stated in court that he did not hit me and it was his friend that was driving the truck that day. The chief of police asked his lawyer what his client would plea if you told him that we have a witness that could positivaly ID him at court today. His lawyer came back and said that his client would plea to leaving the scene of an accident and that was all. What a joke. Has anyone else had this type of experience?
