Carolyn's Story

If you knew me and actually saw me in Green Run. You got me on a day or bell I wasn't skipping, I didn't care for it too much, always had things I wanted to like go to the beach or drive with tune turn up cruising around Virginia beach Mrs. Mitchell made the biggest impact in my life. She helped me through some tough times. I love her for that. She also showed me that it was ok to be myself... as goofy as I am. I just wish I knew how to contact her, so I can thank her. I was in drama which I the only class I tried not to miss because that I could explore who I was & wanted to be, while making great friends that pushed you towards your dreams. With "mom" aka Mrs. Mitchell, the sky was never the limit because when you got there you couldn't grow. So you had to push past and see what else you can reach that you didn't imagine. You were judged by anyone in drama. We all had our own unique style and were individual thinkers. I was always a talkative, sarcastic hippie chic who laughed loudly at everything and I mean everything. Most people commented on me always smiling. I tried to be nice to everyone unless someone messed with one of my friends, then they dealt with me. Most, if not all my best memories in high school were in the auditorium. I felt I was were I belonged. Drama and Mrs. Mitchell are why I am living my dream. it just took me longer than I ever thought but I always held on to what I wanted to do as a career. I started doing makeup in drama and I wanted to go to school to learn all the cool stuff. Unfortunately, it wasn't going to happen after high school. I got cold feet about moving to California alone going to school for 40 hrs a wk, no financial aid or dorms. I'd have to do everything alone and scared I'd fail so I stayed here. Got a full time job a makeup artist for glamour shots, I was so excited about being able to actually do something with what I wanted to. May not be California but I worked with a great team and made some life long friends that I adore. After that I worked at Lancome for a year. I liked I was still learning stuff but the other counters loved me because how fast I am and can sell products. So if they were over booked, I get their overflow of waiting makeovers. I was nice to see the difference in using cheap stuff to high end products. So it was another stepping stone, so I thought,,,,, then came t...Expand for more
he high paying office job which I needed because i just moved out. I was working 2 part time jobs and full time at Lancome. Youth is a great thing for that because I still always had time to party with my friends or see who ever I may have been dating. Then I met my daughters father and moved to Pennsylvania got another great job got married and then moved to Myrtle Beach. I had my daughter, Starrlyn, who is the best kid ever! Things didn't work with her father and I. So I eventually moved back to VB to go to Cosmology School because I found out over the years, some states require you to have a cosmetology license to do makeup. My main goal was to get my name back out there and finish school. Thankfully, I am very fortunate to have people on my life that have been there to pick me up, dust me off, shake sense into me but most of all love me while cheering me on! Most of them have been around since high school or shortly after. I am thankful for them always helping me in so many ways. One of my best friends works as crew for movies and TV. He knew I wanted to get into it. He told everyone about me and tried to get me work. Ironically, my first 3 local commercials fell in my lap by every day posting and networking. I started with those then did music videos and kept talk to everyone and then dropping my best friends name to them. Finally, I hit it off with a guy that hired me for several jobs, then the director/producers kept telling other people about me. Then I get an email to call this person because they need someone for a TV show tell then they referred me. I started 2 days later. I thought I knew what I was doing before I got there, boy was I wrong! I thought I was only going to be there for that episode. Now 2019, I wrapped season 10 and my second full season of the TV show A Haunting on the travel channel. I've done a movie and worked with a few celebrities. I absolutely love what I do. I've now made a name for myself that the senior/veteran Makeup Artist refer me for jobs without even working with me before. I am glad I never gave up. I want to show my daughter that if she wants something she can have it. Life isn't an easy path and you hit road blocks but if your compass is still pointing you in the right direction you'll get there. You don't know what you need to learn or make you stronger in order to fight for your dreams.
