Carrie's Story
Life
Hello from Tacoma WA. Thanks for keeping in touch. I live in a house that my mother had before she remarried. I am buying it from her so we can keep it in the family and have been remodeling. It is so nice to be able to be here because it really feels like home to Ben. Our neighborhood is close to the University of Puget Sound. It reminds me so much of a neighborhood around Eugene. Old Craftsman houses, lots of maple trees and real good ol' liberals.
I am currently teaching in an elementary school in Federal Way, which is about 15 miles north of Tacoma. I've been in Tacoma since 1978, with the exception of two years in Dallas, TX. I still get flashbacks(it's not pretty!)
Life is pretty good. I've been a single parent since my son was four. Ben is a Marine, is 21 and is stationed at Camp Pendleton. I am very proud of his accomplishment. However, some of you may remember my feelings about the military and they haven't changed. I am very worried about him going to the Middle East, as you can imagine. Ben and I have been estranged since Novemebr 2008 due to an unfortunate announcement of his engagem...Expand for more
ent. A VERY long story but, he did get married in July of this year. I was not invited. This young women is a mess and I am sad that he has cut me out of his life at this point. I hope that we can talk before he gfoes overseas, which appears inevitable.
My mom lives on Whidbey Island and my sister, Rebecca (you may have known her as Becky) lives in Olympia. Beck got remarried several years ago to a Fire Fighter. We lost her wonderful husband to a job related brain tumor in 2005. It was an awful and yet, a wonderfuly bonding experience to go through the end of his life with him. We are blessed to have had him in our lives.
My sig other is a fire fighter. He is the best. Ken lives in Olympia but works in T-town. He works a one on- two off, one on- four off. Good for the relationship and he gets a LOT of jobs done around both of our homes.
My neighborhood is a great community and a constant source of support. Tacoma is a lovely place to live and I am lucky to have many friends in my neighborhood and from my job.
I loved seeing people at, and since, the last reunion. Getting older is so cool. C2
