Cassandra's Story
I was an air force brat so moved around a lot while growing up. My father was stationed at Shelby A.F. Depot, so I finished my high school years there after attending 2 high schools in Germany. I graduated from Miami University with a major in Elem. Ed. in 1965. Later that year I married my husband Bill, who is a graduate of the University of Dayton. It was the Viet Nam era and after we had been married about 6 months Bill went into the air force while I taught school in Dayton, Ohio. We moved around a bit ending in Hampton, VA, where I continued as a teacher. Bill went to Japan & Viet Nam while I stayed in Virginia. When he left the service we moved back to Kettering, Ohio where we had lived before the air force. Bill went back to being a CPA and I couldn't find a job as a teacher so I went into banking. I spent 21 years progressing from a teller to Vice President of Human Resources & Marketing at a local bank. I went to Sinclair Community College and got an Associat...Expand for more
e Degree in Financial Management and to the University of Colorado at Boulder to get certification in Human Resources. Through all the bank mergers, my job was finally done away with and I was hired as associate director of our local chamber of commerce (Beavercreek). When my boss decided to retire a few years later, I was hired as director where I remained for 11 years. During that time I graduated from a 6 year program at Notre Dame for a certification in Organizational Management. Both my husband and myself retired in Jan.,2005. We have no children. I have kept busy since then by volunteering at our local Convention & Visitors Bureau, writing a weekly newsletter for my Rotary Club, and serving on the Library Foundation Board. For the last 18 years I served on the Board for Greene, Inc. ( a sheltered workshop for the mentally and physically challenged), but recently resigned. We just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. The picture was to commemorate that event.
