Catherine's Story
Life
You might remember me as that shy person who wore very thick glasses. Well, I'm no longer shy and I had the Lasik surgery, so I only need over-the-counter reading glasses (no different than the rest of you.)
I was recently RIFed (reduction in force) from my long-time job at a medium sized CPA firm in Boston. For the past two years, I've been conbining my knowledge of accounting and computers by being in charge of the firm's time and billing system, support person for MS Office, and assistant to the Controller. Before I took on this position, I WAS the controller;...Expand for more
but I burned out.
The funny thing about this job was that when I came aboard in a 1988 merger, I ran into Mary Leahy Gillis who was a CPA tax manager. Mary was in the other home room of our 1965 class. She didn't remember me, but I remembered her (but I couldn't figure out where I knew her from--it took a month to pin that down.) We put our heads together an marveled at our yearbook. Oh, those hair styles were wild!
I have both good and bad memories of my high school year. It was a time of transition for me...changing from a child to a woman. It was a difficult time.
