Catherine's Story
Most of you probably knew me as Cathy Betyn.
I left Taylor back in '84 for the Bradenton/Sarasota (central gulf coast) Florida beaches, where my folks retired to, and have remained.
(Us Betyn kids love to tease them: "Puttin' up with each-other in wedded bliss for more than 55 years!")
After 5 years in Florida, I met my husband and moved to HIS hometown of Kansas City, Missouri where we were for 5 years. ('89 - '94)
Kansas City is like Detroit, but with many fountains, great jazz and bar-b-que joints everywhere.
Never having been a big fan of snow or the cold... we decided to settle out west in the Sonoran desert, specifically Tucson, Arizona, which is where my husband was stationed while in the Air Force during the Vietnam era.
My 1st marriage lasted 17 years. Yep. Past tense.
Two positives DID come from my 1st marria...Expand for more
ge though: My beautiful kids, Ethan and Emy, who are special needs kids w/autism.
While in Tucson, I was the "Record Babe".
Honestly.... that's what EVERYONE called me.
I worked for a decade at an independant vinyl shop & LOVED it. Imagine the John Cusack movie High Fidelity crossed with Half Baked, but on a much larger scale (as in 20,000 sq. ft. of music) and that was pretty much my life for 10 years.
"How much will you give me for this Kenny Loggins album?"
"4 bucks"
"4 BUCKS!? But he signed it!"
"Alright... 2 bucks."
I've always been a music freak, and I was truly blessed with a job that was so much fun to go to day in and day out, but after awhile, I needed to get my priorities in order -- and decided it was much more important for me to be at home with the kids and focus on them full time.
