Catherine's Story
Life
Right after graduation, I headed for Northern Ireland for an International Youth Peace conference where I represented my Church as the youngest ordained Elder. It was a learning experience as we, as Americans, had just bombed the Middle East. It is nothing like getting yelled at by a bunch of Russians through their translator for bombing a country we had no right in doing. I also met several Iraqi's, one of whom I corresponded with up until his death in 1991. I got married in 1999 to Larry and my best friend (who some of you met at the reunion) was our best man. We survived Hurricane Lenny on our honeymoon and Larry survived 9-11-01 (he is at 1 Police Plaza 3 blocks away) with the help of a few guardian angels. Life has resumed some normalcy and I'm very happy with my life & marriage.
School
With the exception of a few teachers and a few friends, I hated every minute of it. Life happened after I finally left Huntington High. I didn't have to deal with the self absorbed idiots who made my life a living hell. I had been tormented by the same self-absorbed idiots since Kindergarten and I had enough. I attended the class reunion only to see if those same people were still self-absorbed, some were. A few had changed. I moved on and can honestly remember...Expand for more
the fond memories with my favorite teachers and the friends I had in the class of 1985, 1987, 1988 and those I made on the outside. Because my husband is curious I will attend my 25th if only to show him what my high school years consisted of. Happily thanks to Facebook, Bill Deegan and I reconnected and are in the process of coordinating our reunion and I am in a place now where I look forward to seeing everyone.
College
I attended two colleges -- LIU/C.W. Post and SUNY Oswego. Suny Oswego was a wonderful place 40 minutes north of Syracuse on Lake Ontario. I rushed Alpha Phi Omega where I met my best friend & Big Brother, Tom. I studied Art History with Museum Management as my minor (thanks Mr. Waits). Oswego taught me a new meaning for snow storms == nothing like having snow drifts taller than me. I also was the elected treasurer for the student run Art Gallery and met some of the finest Indian artistians on the East Coast. I became quite close to one Iraquoi tribe in upstate New York who gave me my indian name in a beautiful naming ceremony "leads with big heart." I still get an occassional letter from the medicine man's son.
I don't plan on upgrading to Gold anytime soon so if you want to catch up go to facebook/aunt.tate and we can catch up there.
