Cathi L.'s Story

Life December 2, 2006 What have I done since leaving Torrance High in January of 1976? Yes, I did graduate early, and I did not come back for graduation day or the prom. I was glad to be out of school, although I did go to El Camino College for about a year, and quit. Instead I chose to go to work as a security agent at the L.A. Airport at the American Airlines Terminal. I really enjoyed the job, and had hoped to get into the airlines themselves, so I could travel, but I was too short to be airline stewardess. Since I couldn’t be a stewardess, I became a secretary working for several different companies. At age 21, on September 15, 1979, I was married to a very wonderful man, by the name of Daniel, who I have been married to for the past 27 years. We have had two children together both boys. My oldest son, Timothy, was born in 1982 and my youngest son Matthew was born in 1986. When my oldest son got to be 4 ½ years old, my husband and I decided to home school our children. So, for 17 years I was not only my children’s mom I was also there teacher, taxi driver, maid and cook. I was one busy mom, and enjoyed every moment of it. Home schooling was a great thing for both my boys, because it helped each of them to progress at there speed, and Oxnard, CA had more than we could choose for the boys to be evolved in socially. We had tee-ball, baseball, swim team, and karate. There were also bible clubs, art and music classes plus lots of friends on a daily basis. Our back yard was always filled with laughter and fun and I enjoyed every moment of it. Now, both of my boys are grown. My oldest is a Web Developer for a large financial company in downtown Los Angeles, while my youngest is in the Air Force stationed in San Antonio, TX. For the past two years I have worked for my husband who owns his own Computer Consulting Company. As of December 31, our business will be merging with another Computer Consulting Company, and I will be retiring fro...Expand for more
m my administrative bookkeeping responsibilities. My next plan is to write music, which is what I have been learning to do for the past four years. Who knows maybe one day you will hear one of my songs on the radio. As for the rest of my life I hope to continue to learn and grow. There is yet so much to learn, and I look forward to traveling and possibly returning to school. As for things that I love, Christmas is one of my most favorite times of the year. I love all the decorations, music and the special smells that come with this time of the year. My house is always filled with them. I love surprising the people that I love, and giving to those who are in need, which is something I try to remember to do all year long. I love the story of Christmas, and the peace and joy that it brings, and most of all I love the warm California weather we get at Christmas time, and I would miss it if it snowed. My husband often says that I am related to the lizards that sun themselves on my front porch, by the way I have to bask in the sun to get warm. I Love all kinds of music, but my favorite is probably Jazz, Celtic and Classical. My favorite jazz singer is probably Sade, while Iona is my favorite Celtic group and gosh its’ just too hard to pick my favorite classical. But, if I were going to pick a favorite, I probably would say Sergei Rachmaninoff and his piece “Elegi, Opus 3, No.1”, but there are several pieces that I like by Beethoven too. As for rock music, my favorites groups would be, The Eagles, The Scorpions, Journey, and Dream Theater. My husband and I also love to travel, and have been to many beautiful places. Some of our favorites are Hiking in Zion National Park, and Bryce Canyon. We also like hiking up in Big Sir, California. Another favorite thing we like to do is to rent Seadoos (personal water craft) on Lake Powell. Seadoos are a lot fun, and Lake Powell is incredible. In the future we hope to take a trip to New Zealand or Japan.
