Chandler's Story
Life
After graduating from Puyallup High School, I attended the U of W for a short time. I started to work for the City of Tacoma in December 1958 as a rear chainman on a survey crew. I worked for Tacoma City Water for 3-1/2 years and was drafted by the US Army in March 1963. I spent my tour in Germany as an artillery surveyor stationed in Butzbach, Germany with the 2/18th FA. After returning home in 1965, I attended night school and completed my engineering fundamentals. I took the Washington State licensing exam for engineer-in-training in 1971. I became a civil engineer for Tacoma Public Works Department in 1972. I obtained my PE license in 1974.
I worked in the City's Wastewater Utility from 1975 until I retired in July 1989. I was lucky in that as the City's Source Control Supervisor I was in on the ground floor of many of the environmental clean up projects for the City of Tacoma.
After retiring from Tacoma, my children were still in high school, so I went to work for CTE Engineers, an envrionmental consulting firm, specializing in sanitary sewer, storm drainage and potable water projects. I retired for good on September 1, 2001. Although retired, I still do a little consulting work for small water systems. I will l...Expand for more
ikely end that work when Karen retires.
Shortly after returning home from Germany, while living at the Unionaire Apartments, I met this beautiful lady living just three doors away. Her name was Karen Munt, Mt. Tahoma, Class of 1963. Eight months later we were married. We celebrate our 40th anniversary on April 22, 2007.
Karen, my wife, still works for the Puyallup School District, but will retire at the end of October 2007. We do enjoy a considerable amount of traveling even with her working. We recently purchased a condo in Mazatlan and once Karen retires, we expect to become snowbirds and spend three months or so in the nice warm weather of Mexico.
We have one son (Rogers HS, Class of 1990) married to Jenny Walker (RHS, Class of '92) and living in Lynnwood, WA. Colin and Jenny have one son, Nathan, born on June 2, 2003. Colin is a teacher working for the Edmonds School District, and Jenny is an Account Manager for the Revere Group. My daughter Megan, RHS Class of '93, is married to Doug MacSparran, Lakes HS, Class of '94. Megan is an Associate VP for Washington Mutual, while Doug is an Aeronautical Engineer working for Aerotec LLC. That company does certification testing on modified airplanes. They live in Renton, WA.
